Just received some bamboo shafts and want to paint and crest just like woods, .....BUT (as you may know already) the 'ol bamboos ain't gonna turn nice and purty in the crester, .......so, I printed this up on some decal paper. I think it will work with a little clear overcoat to protect it. What do you think, anyone else done this before?

That's a pretty busy crest! I am curious as to how the finished arrow will look. Definitely original!

I agree with Killdeer, that's a pretty busy design.
Personally, what I'd do is crest like normal but taylor the crest to the bamboo and keep it somewhat simple without worrying about getting really tiny lines.
I use decals all the time on wood arrows but I use them for special symbols or lettering that I can't do with paint.

Tape and paint the spaces, that's all I do. Works ok with a little practice. Or do it the old fashioned way- by hand. I don't believe the
American Indian peoples had cresting machines.

I probably did get a little carried away, it's the first time I got serious on "paint". I may edit it a little before actually using it. I may also use part of the design under the fletching.
Guy: how do your decals hold-up?

I put them on over two coats of gasket lacquer and then apply two more coats over them. No problems at all with durability unless the finish gets gouged to that depth.

Is that one decal, or five all on one sheet to print?

I was wondering if some may have thought that was all ONE decal...........but, you're right eminart, that is 5 decals on one sheet. Even at that, it is rather busy. I may cut it down some, depending how it looks.

Yeah, I think people are seeing it wrong. Not only are they seeing the 5 decals, the length you have them makes the bands look a lot smaller than they'll really be. I think this is closer to what they will look like as individual wraps:

Ignore the blurring and halo effect.

Hawkeye: sorry about that.

Going with flourescent yellow shaftment and yellow fletches and nocks.
Experimented wth them last night..........the yellow doesn't show up well, mainly see the orange and black.
Was, at first, going with all yellow fletching, but may use some natural barred turkey in the mix also.
