Was going to hang a few stands this weekend. Went to grab an old hang on off a pine tree in the yard. I'd been using it to get in the habit of bending at the waist without having to climb 15 feet up to do it. Anyways. Little voice in my head told me to jump up and down a couple of times on this stand.SNAP! Cable broke and stand and me came tumbling down. Glad it was 12" up rather than 12'!

Lesson learned. I've got a couple up already that I'll be taking down and double checking tomorrow.
Chippewa Wedge-Loc? I need to check my cables and chains. Thanks for the reminder.
Wow, you still could have twisted an ankle or knee..Glad you found out before you were 12ft up. I have a couple of climbers that use the rubber coated cables. I buy new cables every 2 or 3 years, even if they "look good".. Good luck hunting this year, I think Deer season starts this month for you in South FL?
Good post. Check your gear guys and gals, better to be safe than sorry.
I wonder if that rubber coating holds moisture in and causes the cable to rust faster? :dunno:
:scared: :campfire:
i replace my cables with ratchets replace eveRy other year just to be safe
Thanks for the reminder. I am glad you weren't injured!
Can't be to careful......but for me it's a short fall to the ground from my Waldrop Pac-Seat. I'm getting to old to be swinging from tree branches. Even you guys who use ladder stands...check them out also!!
