Title: 125 gr Broadhead?
Post by: wisconsinteacher on June 28, 2012, 05:32:00 PM
I have some Magnus 2 blade heads but was thinking about getting some 3 or 4 blade heads for deer.  Would you keep the 2 blades or spend the money on 3 or 4 blade heads?  If you were to get new ones, what would you get?

I would use the (sponsor here)the 125 grain (with 100 grain insert) 2-blade, single-bevel Helix. (In fact I do!)

I love my 125 grain Magnus Stingers (and Buzzcuts) in 4-Blade.

Do a search and you'll see some good looking blood trails.

You will get many different answers here. As for me, I love the Woodsman Elite for a 125 grain model.

I was thinking 3 blade head at this point.  I have the 100gr inserts already in the shaft.

They are nearly all good.  The choice is yours.

I hope to have a bear tag in 2 years so that is part of the reason for the change.  What about the 125gr Snuffers?  I am guessing they will make a hole.  I know they are not the strongest head in the world but I don't care it they curl on the tip after they pass through a deer or bear.

Problem is they don't curl after they pass through, but usually on hitting bone on the way in, reducing penetration.  That being said, Snuffers have an extra hard tip and won't curl, nor will Woodsmans, if you remove the needle point.  I'll be using 4-blade Zwickeys or two blade Abowyer Wapiti's on Wisconsin bear this fall. May even have a Woodsman in the quiver.

VPA is hard to beat.

As Shedrock said, you will get many different answers, but as for my 2 cents worth, Ive used two blade stingers for years, NEVER had a problem.  Bought a 3 pack about 7 yrs ago, lost one, the other two have been sharpened and re sharpened untold times, and they still get the job done.

Snuffers for me.  They give me a better and shorter bloodtrail.

The old Bear Razorheads with bleeders would come to around 125. If you wouldn't sweat over 10 grains, the weight of the bleeders, they will cover both your 2 blade and 4 blade needs. Factor in the extra mojo and you can't really go wrong!

I've never had a problem with Magnus stingers blowing straight through deer and hogs. Just get them super sharp after that its all personal preference!

Yep, for a three blade head go with a VPA. There is no downside to them for me.

My choice in a 3 or 4 blade would be a Woodsman/VPA/Elite/Trailmaker type or a 4 blade Zwickey model, probably a Delta.  Sharpness and tuning will be the key.

I would shoot whatever makes you feel good.

The bottom line is if the head is sharp, flies well and you hit them good, they will all kill the animal.

I have used several different types of heads and on all the deer and bear if I double punch the lungs they don't go far.
