Getting all of my pieces together for the North American Longbow Safari.... longbows and wood arrows with broadheads only.
Thought I would bling out my stuff a little more "trad" than I sometimes do.
Got the quiver I made with the strap that used to be a belt my dad made for me when I was 15 out of a snake he skinned. Rattle from different snake but from a good buddy of mine. Snag crested arrows. I put the feathers on... should have used shield cut. A few turkey feathers off of the first (and only) turkey I have killed with a trad bow. The bow is a 7 Lakes blank that I just finished up. It's a double shelf. I shoot lefty mostly but am right handed so I wanted a bow to shoot both with and keep a little balance in my body ????
I like the bow. I think it's around 45 at my draw but haven't checked it yet. Put the beaver fur silencers on. Got some zwickeys I won at a raffle to use. A couple of knives I made from blanks with osage I cut on my family land in Oklahoma. Pretty good pile of mojo. I will be lucky to get back with a few arrows the way I'm shooting but if I just don't shoot I'll look dandy.
Looking forward to this shoot alot. Get to see some of my Oregon buddies there.

You may be over dressed! I guess i look like a redneck, but only care about spinning shafts down range and seeing all the good folks there. These guys pour their hearts and souls into this event and ensure you thank them. Tremendous effort to make it fun for the rest of us.
Thanks Jeff and Idaho tradders for your efforts
Nicely done! You sure are into the spirit of the event. Even if you lose and break all your arrows you will still have more fun than should be allowed.
Oh, and it's really easy to snag spare arrows out of those big back quivers as they go by. :D :nono:
Killdeer~ take pics!
I have never heard of NALS but just googled it and it looks like a cool deal! I think you are ready for sure.
Have a great time and take some pics to show us after it is over.

Nice looking bow Russ! Looks like a shooter. Great looking quiver. If you run out of arrows just throw that axe. I'm looking forward to seeing you again and spending some time in a beautiful setting.
I like your gear. Sounds like a lot of fun. We will definitely be expecting some follow-up posts from you.
Nice gear. Love the knives!
Now you just need a hat with an antler burr hatband and you will be livin' large and shootin' like you were in charge! Have fun!
NICE
Thanks all. I forgot to add that I have an armguard from the 2000 NALS that I got from a brother of the bow that is no longer with us.
Snag, let me know when travel plans firm up. I'm looking forward to this shoot alot.
I always take my camera and forget to take many pics but I'll try to be better this time.
That's some sweet gear right there! Have a great time at the shoot. :archer2:
I'm waiting to hear back from you know who.....you will know as soon as I do.
See you two up there. Be safe
Twelve hrs of driving for us. How about you guys?
"Double shelf"...? Really? haha
Very nice looking set up you have there sir! Have fun and be safe you guys!
Double the fun. I'll be able to make my 6:45 hr drive in 8 since I'm in the mystery machine with no a/c
Russ do we need to hook you on the truck as we go by? LOL!! :biglaugh:
No Ryan... just keep an eye out for me in case. I changed a few flats for people this Summer to build up my karma points in case I need 'em along the way. I do have a new(er) engine since the winter and it's running better that ever????
Will do :)
Wagons hooooo! Head 'em up, move 'em out.....RAWHIDE! Yeah! :biglaugh: I'm soooo gone. Been bugging Kathy so much that I think she is looking forward to me leaving as much as I am...haha
We all made it back... I put up some pics over in the Trad Events Forum.
We made it back to NV. Great time and so nice to see all those familiar faces
We drove the 12hrs in record time and arrived home at 1 a.m. Going down the Gorge we had lightning storms most of the way and one range fire whose smoke drifted down off the tops and into the Gorge. Rained so hard that even with the wipers on full speed you could hardly see. No sheep sightings coming back. We saw about 5 or 6 going to NALS though.
I added some more pics on the NALS thread also.
