Title: Woodie help with bear super mag
Post by: graybarkhunter on June 26, 2012, 10:32:00 AM
Was going to try woodies out of a 48 super mag I got and was wondering what spine I needed and what grain BH ( or total weight) up front. The  bow is 50@28 and I draw just barely shy of 28.  If more info is needed I can hopefully give it. Thanks a lot, Seth
P.S .  Tel me what y'all shoot/ have experience with, thanks

Well, it depends on what your using it for, targets, or hunting ? for targets I would go with 45-50 spine and 125 gr. up front. For hunting you might want to try a heavier broad head  and up the spine to 50-55 or 55-60 depending on the weight of the broad head.

I don't use wood due to time constraints, I have had good luck with Traditional GT's 1535's with 50gr. brass inserts and 125 gr. tips in my 48" Mag. and it is 45# at 28" ( I draw 26 1/2" ) I also use this set up all the way up to 50+ # in my other bows.

Good luck.

I'd start with a test pack from Surewood or Wilderness Custom Arrows.  Pick a spine range centered around 50#, cut to length, install the points you want and get busy.  I'm guessing that with a 160grn point you'll end up around 60#, but I'd still use a test pack.
