Title: saluki turk
Post by: team fudd on June 22, 2012, 06:09:00 AM
I know there are some of you out there shooting the Saluki bows and I have heard most often about the ibex model but wondered if anyone is shooting a turk?  Thoughts about the performance etc would be much appreciated, Many thanks in advance,  FUDD

I had one. Same experience. When those siyahs turn over it feels like your getting some let-off. Scary to string sometimes.

Performance was great but I couldn't get past how the bow felt at full draw, didn't feel stable. But was very quick.

I have a Turk. 54" 57# at 28". I also have an Ibex 60" 62# at 28".

I will post pictures.

The Turk is a great bow. Super quick, no doubt.

I like its manners. If find it very easy to shoot. Major penetration with a 10 GPP arrow.

The grip is really nice on Saluki's. Seems like they will fit any hand.

Oh, I also like the "let off" that the Turk has. When the Syias open up at full draw, there is a noticeable let off.

Pretty cool.

thanks for the opinions guys, much appreciated and I would love to see pics of your turk matt.  Do you notice that the bow is more critical of form being a relatively short bow?  I am used to short bows and dont normally shoot anything over 58" but I know some are more forgiving than others.  Thanks!

Best answer, it is a Saluki Mongolian style bow, specifically made to shoot accurately, from a galloping horse. So, standing still and shooting is a breeze.

Bareshafting from 20 yards.

Mine is 44 @ 27, and shoots 50-55 spine Douglas Fir with authority.

It is an accurate shooting, high peformance bow with superior workmanship.

I watched a documentary on YouTube last night that had Lucas from Saluki in it. He was trying to figure out how the Mughals made their composite bows. He was also doing some horseback shooting. Excellent show, I love learning about history. I won't include a link, but do a search for Warrior Empire--The Mughals on YouTube.
