Title: Great Northern Quivers--New owner, new "angle"
Post by: Steve O on June 21, 2012, 10:06:00 PM
I have always felt Great Northern Quivers were about as good as it got.  As I did more and more out of state (read spot and stalk) hunts, I found I did not like my fletchings sticking out in frnt or my bow.  I wanted everything contained.

At Kalamazoo this year, I was talking with the new owner of Great Northern Quivers, Bob Brumm about my search for perfection.  He said he was already on it...

I heve bent up and butchered a few GN quivers over the years.  I even had a welder friend lined up to cobble up some modifications for me until I talked to Bob at Kzoo.

Well, Brian Wessel and I hunted Bob down at Compton last weekend to pick up a couple of Bob's new design "angle" strap on quivers.

It is ingenious.  Simple and effective, just as all things GN are.  Bob had the lower strap attachment wire bent 180 degrees from normal so it would attach to the belly side of the limb instead of the back as normal.  The top stays as is to create the angle.

That pic above is on one of Brian's TallTines in the standard "angle" configuration.  It kicks the fletching back nicely.  Bob is also including two "blocks" of the same rubber material the straps are made of to add to the attachment points (or either the top or the bottom) to create as much angle as you like.

Now I have the solid and shock absorbing rubber mount, the long broadhead covering hood, the perfectly spaced fletch clearance, and secure gripper I have always adored the GN quiver for, but I also now get the angle I have learned to love to keep my quiet bow as the most forward part of my stalk, not my noisy fletchings.

Cool deal! There is a GN quiver on any bow I take into the woods!

I do not see these on the website yet (http://www.gnqco.com/quivers.htm) so it is probably best to call Bob to order @ (269) 838-5437

Kelly Peterson from Arrows by Kelly described this modification some time ago on his website. After I modified one, I modified the rest of mine and all of my buddies" strap-on quivers.

I like the balance and arrow profile much better than the stock quiver.

That's a nice change.I've been real picky about that angle for a long time.I modify every quiver on each bow till they angle back just about like you are showing.I think it's a great move to offer it.Nice quivers.

I have been hung up on GN quivers for awhile now...they ere the bees knees!

Been bending my bottom bracket just like tt for several years now to accomplish that same thing.  Glad he decided to make it a standard item!

Yep, those spring steel arms are not made to bend like that.  It is   MUCH better having them bent right from the factory.

This is great news. I may actually try a bow quiver again. I really don't like things hanging on my bow, but a bow quiver sure is convenient at times.

These are a tough design to beat.  Stays put, even in cold weather.

I just got a Q/D for my new RER curve, and couldn't be happier with the new thumb screw design they came up...

Fantastic quivers...

Good news, I have bent several around and did break one once and had to call and order a new wire. Good stuff.

I might call and see if I can just get the new angled wire for mine.

I've actually been doing this with my Professional Quivers for years.  I reconfigured mine to do this by heating the wire and twisting it 180.  Works flawlessly.

I know Steve mentioned it but you guys can also ask about the elongated hoods for accommodating those larger broadheads(3-1 ratio).  May I add that the horse hide hoods look stunning in person.  I spoke with Bob briefly and GN quivers continue to be my favorite.  Thanks for posting pics Steve, maybe you can get a close up of that beautiful hood.

Ya man! Just twisted one of mine around and done away with my only gripe!!! Good deal they're being made that way now. Thanks for the clue in.

I am looking forward to a few of these with the TallTines logo on them!

Here is the long hood.  That is a 200g Wensel Woodsman Elite, barely in the locating hole.  Plenty of room for the longest broadhead to be completely covered.

I have found out this style is named "Kickback", so just specify that with the order.

Right now it is available on the strap on model.  I'd like to see it as an option on the side mount and limb bolt models too, but that will a bit tougher.

I ordered my strap on a few years back with the pins bent back the other way so I could mount it on the back of the limbs. I like my quivers behind the profile of the bow, not even the hood sticking out. I'll try to post some pix later.

Take alook at this one (of two that will ever be made). It cost me a pretty penny as I had to buy it at auction rather than win the other in a raffle...

I am thinking it will be special mojo for my lion hunt in December

Here is a closeup of my strap on with pins reversed.

This one is on a prototype Kwikstyk to show mounting behind the profile of the bow. I stitched up a new cover with the rough side out and 1/2" longer in front.

I wish they would make a 4 arrow version again like the kids used to be.

Gun,
That looks really tight to the bow. I like it. Any chance of a pic from the front or back to show just how tight?
