Title: WY antelope Walk-In
Post by: wapiti792 on June 21, 2012, 02:21:00 PM
I was wondering if anyone has done a hunt in Unit 42 for 'lopes? I know there are some walk in areas there, and I have hunted the Laramie Peaks area previously for elk and mulies with great success.

I guess my question centers around an early bowhunt for any antelope. According to the G&F website there are 17,000 acres available in the walk-in program with a few tags to buy leftover for bucks and a definite for does. As far as sleeping on the prarie and doing a blind style hunt, has anyone hunted this area? Driving through in times past it seemed loaded with antelope, and since my lovely surgeon has scheduled another surgery on my gut in Sept, my elk hunt (and possibly early whitetail) season is out. I got about a week to drive out, get a hunt in, and then return to appease my wife, the surgeon, and my nonhunting friends  :)  Any info would be most helpful, and if this post is off topic my apologies in advance!

Wapiti, yeah, there are tons of goats.  The spot and stalk in that area is good in spots really flat in others.  There is a fair amount of BLM and state land there too.  And the fact is  I know several of the Land owners and I cant think of a one that wouldn't let you on to archery hunt goats, if you just nock on the door.  The farther north parts are harder to get to due to access, but have better spot and stalk opportunites, the lower south sections are a bit flatter in spots.  there are several creeks wondering through the area.
