I just returned from New Brunswick. Shot my largest black bear yet - 400 pounds and 20 6/16 green score. I never knew how big 400 pounds was until this bear.

Now we need to hear the story behind "Monster Bear Quest"
Thanks guys!
Not much of a story really. I was in my stand when this guy was pushing a nice sow who wanted to eat at the bait while all he was interested in was her. The decision to shoot was a no brainer. I took the shot and watched him run off about 10 - 15 yards, slow to a walk for another 10 - 15 yards. I watched as he stopped, his back end sunk down then his front end followed by a quiet exhalation of air and the woods was silent once again. Silent that is except for the sow that kept coming back to the bait for another 15 min. or so. I could see the bear was down so when she finally left I was able to get down and go take a look.
piggy - You nailed it. It is a green stretcher. The outfitter uses the stretcher to carry bear out of the woods. However, the bear was too big for the three of us (the owner, guide and I) to get the bear out so we came back after dinner and used an Argo to knock down a trail to the bear and took it out that way.
I have to thank Dave Cole of TSI for putting me in a position to get this guy.
Awesome Bear. Well done.
OUTSTANDING!
Sweet looking bow and congrats on a nice trophy! I have always wanted to shoot a bear, stories like this only add to the anticipation!

Great bear Rick! Congratulations!!
Awesome job Rick! Congrats!
Great bear!!
Bears are unfortunately like fish. People exaggerate on a big scale. Most "300" pound bears are closer to 200 and so on. A buddy of mine tried to pass pictures of his 85# as a 175 and most believed him...or so they said.
This makes your bear all the more impressive Rick!
The head on that bruiser doesn't lie! And your pics show him well!
TREMENDOUS bear....congrats on a true giant!

To answer a couple of questions. I was shooting my Pronghorn with sitka spruce arrows I made up. I shot him on the second night of my hunt. The first night I saw 5 bear - all within range, but not what I was hoping for. The night I shot him, at 5:55, I saw four other bear. This is my second hunt with the outfitter. He is not a sponsor but I would be glad to provide info via PM.
Kevin, it has been awhile. If I ever sat down with you and Brian to hear your tales, it would be a long and enjoyable time before I got any sleep.
