With bows getting purtier by the minute (I'm guilty of buying one of the purtier ones), I wonder when we might start seeing even more creative carving on the grip. I'd like a bugling bull wrapped around the grip of my Silvertip, outstretched neck and horns tipped way back? Anyone know of someone who does this sort of carving (superficial, like the pine cone or checkered grip)?

This is beyond funny :) I like to grab my Golden Retriever by the snout when I'm playing with him. Maybe, if Fedora would do a Golden Retriever Snout, instead of the raised thumb grip, I would be a better shooter! :D

Bought this bow off E-bay a few years back. Lady that had it up for auction was selling it for a neighbor whos husband had passed away. He had done the carvings many years ago.
With laser engraving the sky isn't the limit anymore, just your imagination and wallet.

Billy, it is a 58" Red Wing Hunter. Lamont at The Footed Shaft tells me it is a older model due to the highly pointed tips. No plans on selling it now. Don't shoot it to much, but it is sure pretty to look at.

Looks real nice that took an artist to do that work... I think your missing my point for pine cones. They look just fine, but the reason is strickly grip.......... I have used the same stuff you see on stair step edges, to keep from slipping (sand paper with sticky back) a whole lot cheaper,,,, not real pretty. I can do the pine cone and a few other designs. don't ask for them I build bows... For you that have the time to do the work, It is a relaxing hobbie and fun.
I've seen the pine cones and they look great, but I skipped getting the checkered grip on my Silvertip because I thought that it was too pretty a bow to put a checkered grip on (I'm sure others would disagree and think checkered grip looks better). I put enough money into this bow that I want it to have serious character which is why I'm thinking of an animal for the grip for both aesthetic and functional purposes. By the way, Bob, love those honey-colored and copperhead skin limbs...they sure make for a pretty bow.

I'm sure you know one side of the story, Fact is the person that was orginal doing them for me quit to go into building bows on his own, leaving me hang.But you knew all of that. I had to teach my self to do the pine cones for my own personal use and ended up doing more for customers. I don't have the time do try to do anything other than Pine Cones. I have my sons girls friend doing most of them now. I still have to do one once in awhile and my own.
