My Dad who is actually my Stepfather but he has been my only real Dad. My mom divorce before I was 4 years old and us kids (4 of us from my mom's first marriage) never saw much of my real Father due to the nature of these things. So my stepfather stepped in and has been Dad to us for over 47 years.
When he was in his twenties and thirties he used to shoot a lot of NFAA tournaments and was quite successful as I remember. But as he aged work, bills, and other responsibilities took priority and it has been well over 40 years since he has shot a bow.
During the years that he hunted and shot in tournaments I remember growing up day dreaming from the stories I read in the archery magazines that he had around the house (back then all traditional). I would imagine me shooting like him and looked for the day when I could hunt with a bow like Dad shot.
Well, I'm 51 years old now and have been hunting with Traditional gear since 1989 (It's still a miracle that I ever kill anything :clapper: (http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy235/jalmay5th/th_0b5d8b8b.jpg) (http://s795.photobucket.com/albums/yy235/jalmay5th/?action=view¤t=0b5d8b8b.mp4)

You did good!! Thanks for sharing this with us. :clapper: :clapper:
Great post, the smile after his 3rd or 4th shot says it all!
Good gesture,
Happy fathers day!!
One more video, and a question; He's having a little bit of a problem gripping the bow due to his finger deformity. If you notice his bow hand thumb how it turns away from the bow this is allowing the bow to slide around to his right and causing him to worry if the bow will slip from his grip. Anybody have a suggestion to prevent this?

I've never used or seen one used, but don't they make a bow strap? It attaches to the bow and goes around your wrist, I think. You have a very loose grip in the bow and when you draw, you open your hand, and the strap keeps the bow from falling when you release.
Great video by the way. Your Dad looks like a happy camper!
Great story John! You both look and sound happy!! Very special day for sure!
John,
I'm glad your dad is able to shoot the bow. He seems to have no trouble drawing it. Thanks for sharing this and happy shooting to both of you.
Paul,
Thanks again for selling the bow and making this happen!
I was surprised at how he made it look so easy after 40 + years of no shooting :saywhat: He kept complaining that I had the bag target too close (18-20 yards). I'm afraid he's not going to be to happy with my shooting once he come over to shoot with me and he see me miss at that same range, I better get my TP fixed fast!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful story. I am sorry I didn't get a chance to read it yesterday.
I am also sorry I don't have your father's form!!!!
Man he hasn't lost anything after all that time and that 28# bow looks like he can hold it all day.
Soon I would imagine he will be able to shoot hunting weight bows and if your are lucky enough you can take him out again hunting. Looks like you ignited the fire again.
Great story. I wish my father was around so I could do the same for him.
