I got a call from a friend of mine on Thursday. He said "The hogs are in all my fields and they gotta go, can you come over tomorrow and we'll try to shoot one!" Of course I said yes.
Here is my knife that Jeff made! Jeff asked me what kind of wood I wanted for the handle, I said I'm gonna use it so what ever you think. This is what he came up with. Palm tree for the handle! Man! Is that cool or what!!! (Now I have to get Bill to make me some limbs for my Zipper with flat cut Palm Tree Lams :bigsmyl: )

Can't wait to see more pics and read the rest of this story :clapper: :clapper:
:campfire:
Keep it coming!!!!
Thanks for the text last night bro'!
Nice knife Benjy
I had to come in for some water...
I forgot to mention that the State tree for SC is the Palm Tree, thats why Jeff picked it.
I have gotten some of Bill's new grizzlys and I figured this to be a good chance to try one out. I had been shooting one to see how it would fly and it was hitting in the same holes as my VPAs. I sharpened it up in a few minutes and put it in my quiver, I also "touched up" my VPA's incase I had multiple shots.
We located a couple hogs in one of the fields with about 45 minutes before dark...The stalk is on :bigsmyl:
Back to the grass, I'm getting "The Eye" from my wife!!!!
John, I think I sent you a text last night with a picture???
Awesome lookinf knife, now lets see the hog.
Did you cut your finger buddy?

Tractor? :biglaugh:
Apparently it is a hayfield!
I would have been here 4:04 ago but I had to watch a youtube clip of some guy cutting grass, thanks arrow30 :saywhat:
So, it looks like an even 3 hours to cut the grass..
Now a little more of the story until the sweet little "ball and chain" figures out something else for me to do.
John C, I read the rest of your post and I see that you did get my text :D
Thanks for the compliments on the knife, not only does it look good it holds an awesome edge! Jeff knows his stuff! I skinned and field dressed the whole hog without even touching it up! Anyone that has messed with a hog knows that says alot!
Nope, I didn't cut my finger either :banghead: I just stuck it in the ground and pulled out another arrow, this time being a little more careful, I nocked it....
Oh no! Here she comes with a list of stuff for me to do!!!! "I'll be back" in a little bit. :D
Pictures will be up next!
:campfire: :jumper: :jumper: :jumper: :jumper:
I quickly maneuvered so the the large clump of Johnson grass was between me and both hogs and I crept up to the clump grass. The hog is moving out from behind the clump at about 10 yards, I slowly lift up my bow and the joker gets a little spooked by the movement and turns and heads the other way :banghead: I thought it was over! He stops and can't see me through the grass and starts feeding again, he turns quartering hard to my right, I hit full draw and he takes 3 quick steps and stops perfectly broadside! I release and the arrow looks like it flys right under his chest behind his front leg. He spins and takes off, no squeal no grunt, my arrow did not even flicker and I see it sticking in the ground. My first thought "you missed him you knucklehead!" He ran about 30 yards where the other hog was and stoped and looked back to see what happened! I nocked another arrow cause it looked like they were going to feed back out into the field and then they took off. I am mad and shaking my head :banghead: I motioned for my friend to come over. He could not see the hog but was watching me through the bino's. I told him that I just shot under the big hog at 15 yards! We walked over to the arrow and one of the fletchings is gone and it is covered with blood! I am really confused now. All I can figure is that I shot through the brisket or the leg. While we're discussing it, you could see blood sprayed on the ground and you could hear a hog grunting about 50 yards away were they went into the weeds that surrounded the field.
We decided to back out for an hour and then come back to see if we could find him. My friend kept saying that the way the blood looks that he felt the hog was dead but I kept playing the shot back in my mind and I just knew I had shot to low or had hit the leg.
We relaxed for an hour (yea right!) so now it's 10 pm and time to go check it out. There was blood everywhere! I could not believe it. 20 yards from where I had last seen the hog SHE was down! She only went 50 yards and was down. She was dead before we ever walked out of the field the first time and evidently the other sow was grunting at her trying to get her to leave!
This is the best shot placement you could ever have on a miss!!!!
Here are the pictures.

Good on ya ben. I just love it when I miss them like that. Most times I hear them crash but then I aint hunting in a field of johnson grass. You know what I mean? LOL
:clapper: :clapper: Way to go Benjy!!!Thats a fine looking hog.You have been a killing machine the last 12 months. By the way nice hat. :D
Bill
Nice shooting!
:clapper:
Great Miss!
Don, I am with you on the crash, I listen for that everytime! There was not any thrashing at all! The picture is where she was laying so you can see there was nothing for her to to thrash around in.
Bill. I like my hat and love my SXT! That would be 4 hogs and 4 deer with my SXT, not a bad year for a Trad hunter!
Ver nice Benjy congrats.
Congrats again Benjy! Always enjoy your pictures and story telling.
Great shooting!!
Good to see those new Grizzly heads to great use!!
I want to be able to miss like that. Lol
Nice job!
Nice looking knife as well. Palm? I'll be darned, very nice looking stuff.
John, This was a VPA kill. I accidently turned on the lighted nock on the only shaft that I had a Grizzly on so I stuck it in the ground marking my trail. :knothead:
Shedrock, Bill is already sweating, cause he's waiting for my phone call to use Palm lam's in some limbs. I think it "will" look cool!
Thanks for the story and pics.
Excellent Benjay! From the spray, sounds like oyu got the heart? Congratulations!
Great story and pictures, thanks for sharing :clapper:
Benjy! Way to go man! Nice shooting!
Great stuff Benjy
Bill
Great shooting Tex! Like that black palm. Big chunk sitting on the safe.
Was that up near you Benjy or at BS?
great job!!!!!
Ray, it is up here. I have a friend with property that borders the Congaree National Monument on the east side of Columbia. He has pigs sometimes. They are hammering his fields right now.
I love that black palm, it is cool!
You make it all look easy, Benjy! Way to go. Jeff sure makes nice knives.
Allan
Why is it when I hear Benjy and squealing mentioned together my first thought is "Deliverance"? :D :biglaugh: Good shooting Benjy and what a great way to get the Honey-Do done, and a honey ham started!
:clapper: :clapper:
Very enjoyable thread in this down time. Great work Brother. (http://www.pic4ever.com/images/29dz8zk.gif)
Great story Benjy! Good shooting and awesome pig. After taking a sow like that out I bet you'll be invited back to that farmer's land for sure! That means this is truly the beginning of the story.
That knife is sweet. I have never seen palm wood. Very cool.
Now the big question, after all that did you remember to go get your other arrow?
Colin, are you saying that "I" would forget something so I would have to go back to my buddies place, (like this afternoon :D ) to get it? :bigsmyl:
Jeff and Larry Surtees have a few stories about me doing stuff like that!!!
Benjy
I think you are going to have to come up with another tactic. I believe EVERYONE is on to you, Benjy! :biglaugh:
Bill
 :campfire:
Benjy looks like a blast! Good shooting to. I got to meet Bill at Cloverdale and shoot some of those bows and you guessed it, I'm gonna order one LOL
You got to watch him folks he'll sell you a bow and ain't much of a salesman LOL
Love the knife to that palm looks great on it.
It's really been bothering me about this shot! I think that I have figured out why I thought I missed her. With her being in the field with the clover and the low light situation, the bottom of her chest was 3 or 4 inches below the top of the clover. the arrow hit her at the same level of the height of the clover... Does that make since?
Bill, do you have any tactics that you use to get another invite? Just send me a pm if so, that way we can keep it a secret!
Kris, Bill's bows are sweet! He dosen't have to be a salesman. You should shoot one of his Nitro's! I think mine will have Black Palm limb veneers (are you sweating yet Bill?)
Benjy, I already pm'd Bill about Black Palm wood :D He should be ready to discuss it with you. I wonder if it would make good arrow shafting :p
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Nice kill and story there Benny! Whole lotta fine equipment on that piggie - palm, gator and zipper.
Now Up in lights in the corner
Nice adventure,keep smiling Benjy!!
Black Palm  Stick with the Grits tree, Benjy! :biglaugh:
Now I see you have Mike started on this Black Palm bologna!
HHUMMMM....... Tactics to get reinveted to hunt.I have a simple tactic that works fairly well.I take Tracy with me. :D
I consider being called a poor salesman a compliment!I enjoyed our talk, Kris.
Bill
Oh Oh Bill, Your not using Tracy as bait now are you??
I think your going to get a lot of new invites. :biglaugh:
When it comes to baiting, and Black Palm Wood, Bill is a Master! :bigsmyl: Or is that Expert? :dunno:
Benjy,
Just got back from Bear Quest to read this thread...no cell service in La Tuque. I'm sure glad we got that blade sharpened before you downed that hog. Would have been a might bit embarrassing
Jeff, Glad ya'll are back safe! Can't wait for the stories.
The knife worked flawlessly!!!!!
Thank You my Friend!!!!!!!!!!!
Benjy
Benjy was Too Kind to say how dull his knife was when I gave it to him. Instead he asked how I sharpened it! I had put the final grind finish on the blade and Forgot to sharpen it before I gave it to him :knothead:
Awesome congrats Benjy
Congrats again Benjy!!
Good Stuff Brother, Congrats Benjy!
Nice shooting, great pictures...
Nice looking pig and knife. I have been trying to get ahold of tippit to have one made myself. Congrats.
