Title: 2117's from a 45# recurve.
Post by: Scott357 on June 15, 2012, 02:52:00 PM
I am shooting a 45# Ben Pearson Stallion with a Bear weather rest. I usually use 2016's fletched with 4" feathers and a 200 gr point. Today I tried some 2117's fletched with 5" vanes that are left over from my wheelie bow. I used my normal 200 gr points. I was amazed that the 2117's with vanes flew great and they grouped about 1/2" lower than the 2016's do at 25 yards. The only down side was a noticeable decrease in speed but the bow was more quiet and the arrows seemed to penetrate further.
I figured the vanes would kick away from the riser but they flew straight. I have quite a few 2216's with vanes left over too. I may have to try them too.
I am thinking about refletching these arrows with 5" feathers. Would this improve the arrow flight?

I would think the refletching would make them fly even better.......

If they're shooting with really good flight use 4", pick that speed back up due to reduced drag....

2117s fly very good out of my 42# recurve. Of course, I've got a 30" draw length too.

My 44# Black Widow PTF loves 2117s.  It may have something to do with the riser being cut well past center.  If they shoot well for you, shoot 'em!

What I am finding these days is that the old venerable 2114 shoots well out a  45 lb. recurve also. Infact i am getting more consistent flight and accuracy when I compare to some real good carbon stock. I put a 125 gr. three blade muzzy on the other day and they flew like darts. May just being going full circle and back to aluminum this fall.

Just to clarify: we are talking 4 arrow groups the size of a paper plate!

I was shooting this afternoon and I would shoot a 2016 and then follow with a 2117. I dont have access to a chronograph but it seemed to the naked eye that there was quite a difference in speed between the 2 sizes.

I've been shootings 45 lb bow my draw is 28 and  I use 2016s, so I am curious about arrow choice.  Have you fletched any with with say 5 inch shield?

My 2016s came fletched with 4" parabolic feathers.
