These pictures pretty much speak for themselves, but I'll give some background.
I've been shooting my 45@29 Whip with Beman MFX arrows. The brass inserts are 75 gr, the head is 125 gr, and the aluminum footing is 20 gr. I also footed the nock end with a 1/4" of aluminum. These are the 500 spine and total weight is 540 gr. They fly really well out of this bow.
Anyway, I decided I was tired of shooting foam so the other day I screwed in this rubber blunt. I shot 5 gallon buckets, bricks, a wood fence, stump, concrete bird bath, and back to bricks...even broke a couple bricks in half (I know they're brittle).
You can see the blunt is toast. The arrow held up really well. No way this would've happened without the footing. The aluminum was flush with the end of the carbon, so I'm not entirely sure why the carbon threads are smushed and showing....I did shoot it several more times after these pics with good performance.

I would be leary of the shaft if the carbon appears cracked as even if the alluminum protected the outside of the carbon shaft the inside could still be damaged.

I use a 3" aluminum footing with insert installed over my carbon arrow also with insert installed. 100 gr points and these things fly great and almost industructable. On the nock end I use a tapered aluminum insert to accept the small G nock.
Man, I need to get around to putting some of these on my carbons...I might break fewer!
