I saw a post on another site for the new Laclair Big Shaver sheath. I am hankerin' for some Shrew steel. Does anyone have the Big Shaver and new sheath. I can't find the Big Shaver on his site.
The trapper's companion and Laclair Bowie are calling my name but I have not seen the Big Shaver or new sheath. Does anyone have the stats on the Big Shaver?
Thanks
Gil

I did a search on Laclair first before I posted and didn't find it. I am getting old.
Thanks
Gil
Gil the trappers companion has been calling my name also. Just have'nt pulled the trigger.
I went to Colorado last year and there were many times I wish I had a hatchet. The first thing my partner did on the way home was to buy one at Cabelas. He wished we had one too.
I told Darren to tell you I am going to make you an insulting offer on those bows before you try to sell them. Ha!
here ya go Gil,

gil, i don't have the shavers, but i just got a laclair bowie, and it'll shave.
nice working-class knives. i used to be a knife queer, had $500-1000 knives.
sold 'em.
these are blacksmith knives. forged. some say that doesn't matter, but it does to me.
they are well made of good steel, but not fancy.

oh, and a good stout, heavy 10" bowie IS a hatchet...and a knife...and a short sword...and a machete...

I was never a big knife fan. Recently I have become one and can see the need at times.
I asked Ray Hammond once about a big expensive custom knife I was real interested in. He explained the process that went into it and then said it could save your life one day.
I thought of a lot of outdoor adventures I went on and never needed one, but I also thought about the things that could have happened where I would have.
I came to the conclusion that I would rather have one and not need it, than need one and not have one.
I just picked up this big bowie but I think I am going to go for Ron's Bowie and the Trappers Companion when I free up some funds.

I would rather have them and not them, than need them and not have them! Ha!
I also like Ron's shoulder sheaths.
I'm with you on that one, you never know when you will need it.
Gil, I love when function marries art!
Heck, why not have the best!
That bowie was cheap. I got it on the auction site. It is a nice knife though.
Gil. . Shrew Hawks are nice. and also affordable. I recomend their sheath or one built similarly.
I carry mine nearly all the time I am in the woods. Folks roll their eyes at me, but I have the "hatchet" every time when it is needed. And they are needed a LOT where I go!
