Title: How much twist is too much for a bowstring?
Post by: privateer on June 11, 2012, 01:56:00 PM
I have a bow with a worn looking string.

I have a brand new bow string made for a different bow that I no longer have.  It is slightly longer than the other worn string (<1").

I can put it on the bow and get it to the correct brace height but I notice the twist rate looks to be not quite twice as much as the original string.

My question is - How much twist is too much?

Thx.

You will be ok as long as when it is unstrung it doesn't start doubling up on itself.

If you know how to make a string, can just untwist one loop and make the string shorter. I generally like about two turns per inch.  One and three work as well, though you will get more string stretch at three.  More than that I wouldn't do.
