got a camo dipped bow and want to get it off .whats the best way?
I don't know of anybody that's done it but I would guess fine sandpaper or steel wool to start with. If you know who dipped it you might try to contact them, they may have the 'secret'
Good Luck ! That stuff is pretty permanent .
Hi John, you and Scott did good at the Howard Hill. I don't think you can get the modern dipped finishes off without destroying the bow. Before the finish is applied, the old finish is removed and the bow is "roughed up" with a medium sandpaper. You would have to sand off a lot to get everything, and I would be worried that I would go through the glass.
I have asked camo dip installers this question and they have said it can be done, but it is going to be a ton of sanding to make it happen and they didn't recommend it. Kirk from Sasquatch bows offered to do mine last time I was asking around about it, he didn't seem to think it was as big a deal. It is going to be a total strip and refinish job however and you will have to weigh the cost against the bow value...etc I ended up leaving mine as is.
Maybe just have it dipped again, with the pattern you like. :D
IF you didn't like the camo dip, why did you get the bow?
It's pretty permenent unless you want to strip it to the raw wood and glass and start over with finishing. Not an easy task and expensive if you have someone do it.

I agree with some above, I think you would hurt the bow before you got it all off....just get it dipped again....
It depends on who did the dipping. It should come off rather easily by sanding as if you were re-finishing the bow. I would use a mild stripper.
Yep gonna leave it on..was just wondering.cause this stuff is tuff as nails.
I have never stripped a bow, nor have I ever put snake skins on one. If I really wanted the cammo off, I just might consider putting snake skins over the cammo???
Just a thought.
