i normally speak and write in complete sentences, but i'll keep this short.
lost my right arm 30 years ago, sold my 65# howatt hunter, thought archery was over. sad. unlike most, i didn't come to the bow from the gun.
i started with the bow, at 12, shooting rabbits with my grandpa.
lots of hunting with firearms since. iincluding africa. the passion never waned.
anyway, last year, a guy showed me how to pull a bow with my teeth.
started back in with a compound, but ditched it asap. 30 years ago, i shot a recurve, but now i am a longbowman.
missed a big old hog the day before yesterday.
got a bamabow on order.
it had to be the bow, right?
y'all seem like friendly folks. my lurking has answered many questions, but i'll likely pester you with more.
joe
Go ahead and pester.And welcome.
Welcome to Trad Gang man!
I doff my hat to you, Sir & your accomplishments!

Pulling a bow with your teeth.
Fantastic, incredible - Welcome.
You're going to have to post some pics of yourself in action. Great inspiration!
Welcome to the family... Ask away.
Welcome! Sir, you have my admiration. This site is filled with great people!
now thats perserverence!
welcome
thanks.
shooting with the teeth is easy. it's not even a bit special. and i'm certainly not. every 1 of you could be shooting just as well with your choppers the day after tomorrow as you are with fingers today. (assuming you've got stout choppers, )
think about it! y'all draw TO the corner of your mouth--i draw WITH the corner of my my mouth.
when i read about guys giving up, or giving in to inadequate
draw weights, due to shoulder problems, i think thiis might be useful to others, though.
thank for the welcomes. having lurked a couple of weeks, i frankly expected nothing less.
that's why i upped.

for what its worth my best friends father lost his right arm just below the elbow. he had a prosthetic arm with a device on the end that was kind of hook shaped and opened and cosed like pliers using back tension. After years of watching us shoot, one day on a whim he picked up a bow with his "hook" and proceeded to shoot left handed. With a few pointers he was soon drilling the bulls eye. Never let someone tell you you cant do something
If I were to try that it would be called snap shooting for more than one reason. About half back my teeth would reach the target before my arrow.
Congratulations on sticking with it and strong teeth.
You are four times the hunter that I will ever be!
I am honored to be in the community with you.
Killdeer :wavey:
Welcome to the :campfire: Joe. What part of the state do you live in? Rob
Welcome to the party! You may have lots to ask but with your years of experience I am sure you also have plenty of wisdom to share! :)
Welcome aboard Joe!!
Love to see some hunt pics of your successes!! Stumpin' pics are good too :)
Wecome to the Gang!!! Keep up that positive attitude and there is no way you can fail!

 Welcome
The late Biff Williams from Spokane, WA enjoyed shooting and attended a number of the North American Longbow Safaris. He used a small leather tab attached to the nocking point on his string, and it worked really well for him. I'll see about getting a photo and story posted. Good luck.

Its great to hear your still in the game. Its good that you showed up,I can tell you will have lots to share with everyone here.Joe where abouts are you at in Tx?
hud-- yep, that's how i do it, too. i make a d-loop like the rooney-bow boys use with their mechanical releases, and thread a piece of thick, stout, sole leather on it.
so i'm pulling from directly behind the nock.
richie- my 2 great regrets in life are:
1. that i went 31 years without the bow, when i could have been shooting it all along.
and...
2. that i didn't join the Marines! most all of the best men i know are Marines. thanks for your service.
thank you all for your kind welcome. i really appreciate it.
joe
Awesome. I saw someone shoot that way when I was a kid, but I can't remember who they were or where I saw them. It may have been on TV or something, but it doesn't seem like it was.
Also, congrats on the Bamabow. Waiting on one myself.
Welcome to Trad Gang and way to not let the loss of your arm stop you from enjoying this passion of ours :clapper:
Welcome Joe.
Welcome.... :campfire:
Welcome to tradgang sir! :wavey:

Welcome! This sport is all about finding what works for you, sounds like you are fitting right in. :campfire:
Sledge, Welcome from the Heart of Dixie!
Just keep on keeping on. When I was 16 I cut my Achillies Tendon in my right leg. Some Drs. said I would not walk again, at least not normally. But I worked at it and now you can see me limp when I really tired.
So keep hunting and doin' your thing!
You'll really love this bunch.

Welome to the Gang! Folks like you are an inspiration to us all. After reading this, any excuses I had for poor shooting just went down the toilet. Its great to hear from folks such as yourself. Being a Bluegrass picker i have picked with some great instrumentalists that were missing digits or had hands that were not functional because of accident or arthritis ,and they just left me standing there in awe of there talent. Just goes to show, that if you have a passion for something and a strong will, nothing can stand in your way!
Welcome to tradgang. This site is loaded with some of the finest people out there and about all the info you will ever need can be found here.
Way to go Joe! You're an inspiration to us all! Thanks for posting! God Bless & best of luck.
Welcome Joe, I'd like to see you shoot. Like someone else said any of my excuses just went down the tubes! What weights do you shoot? :notworthy: :clapper:

nate at bamabows is building my new bow 60#@24".
my draw has increased from 24" to 25" since i placed the order.

Welcome aboard, you know after reading about your situation and how you have learned to adapt got me thinking that your method sound like a solid way to beat Target Panic :goldtooth:
Welcome, and WOW!
Welcome Joe,
So glad you came back to the stick and string and I too had a fallback somewhat like yours...I severed my right hand in a logsplitter BUT the Good Lord had the Dr's save it and reattached it with 8 pins and 2 operations for nerves...I didn't shoot for several years but started back with a release aid and now I'm shooting like most...I have one question for you "Are you shooting Split tooth Or 3 under?
Welcome Joe. If you can ever video you shooting I am sure it would benefit others out there.
You da man Joe!
