I usually use Velcro. Anything you guys like better? Thanks. Bill
I have tried calf hair, and some other things but like velcro the best. point of interest my Dad uses a tooth brush????
Velcro here too. Pretty tough, easy and cheap to replace.
I've recently put some adhesive-backed leather on mine. It seems to work well and I get a pretty smooth release.
bear hair or Martin rug rest.
I don't like velcro because if you have any sharp points on the tip of your fletch it wants to snag in the loops.
I prefer 1/8" thick velcro for my shelf and also for my side strike plate.
I like rhe look and feel of calf hair but i like leather and velcro too
Seal Skin...nothing better, lasts forever!!
I use mole skin. Its very thin and on Hill bows it gets the bow a little closer to center shot.
I use leather.
I use the felt pads that you put under living room furniture that's on hardwood floors so they wont get scuffed up. I stuck a broken off toothpick under it to elevate it in the middle so it wouldn't be so flat. Works for me and cheap.
Thin leather.
Velcro. God bless.
Calf hair or Velcro
Seal skin or velcro.
Leather and or velcro
Cut off small piece of Bear Hair along with the thin leather side plate.
Velcro here!

I like a rugrest on the shelf and calf hair or sealskin etc. on the sideplate.I like something soft and somewhat plush on the shelf.
Sealskin is the best for me.
Sealskin, but it's impossible to find these days.
Wow, I didn't realize that seal fur was hard to get by in the US.
I will order a tanned pelt to make sure I have some available. Luckily we do have a sustainable seal industry here in Canada.

Leather
I used velcro for afew years it is cheap and works well..but I switched to the thin adhesive backed leather that 3Rivers sells and it lasts much longer..Helen shoots at least 500 shots every week and I was replacing the velcro every few weeks, she has been using the thin leather rest and side plate since january and it looks like it will last another 5 months. I dont know about shooting in cold weather, I hunt and will be using leather if it makes noise its not on my bow for long
I like leather.
I've been using the Bear Hair rests with good luck. I've had luck with velcro as well however it just doesn't look as good IMO.

Roll your tips and glue.
Where are you guys finding sealskin? Short of picking up a club and heading north of the border i doesn't seem to be anywhere. DId you stock up?
I like beavertail
Beavertail!
Bear hair for years but my new Longwalker came with leather and I really like it so far.
Calf hair on all our bows we build
Calf hair on all our bows we build
I made a couple feather rests and really like them. Used 5 feathers, 1" long, 3/8" high with the two outer feathers 1/16" higher, mounted on thin piece of leather. glued them down tight against each other. Lasted all fall and winter. Making a few more up now.
I like velcro the best also.
I don't like Velcro. Maybe it's just in my head but it seems like the fletching would easily get caught up in it and throw the shot off. I like seal skin the best but it is not legal to sell anymore.
Sealskin
I really like thin pigskin leather with the nap exposed. Last way longer than velcro.
industrial stregth velcro from walmart or home depot
thin leather for shelf and side plate - smooth or rough side
Seal skin is probably the best for me!!Loving it here in the Philippines!!It was a gift from Dannybows
Leather. If that's not available, I use leather. If leather is not available, I still use leather.
I have found calf hair to be the quietest for me.
I was using some of the velcro like material from 3Rivers but it always seems to leave a NASTY residue that is really hard to remove. I hate that. Now I am using some of that really thin "superpad" material from them but it doesn;t seem like it will last long...
All the used bows I have bought have had velcro. Works fine, even with the less than perfect grinds on my turkey feathers. When it wears out I go to sealskin. I was able to get two pieces at a Cabela's on close out. I have enough to last for a few years.
Velcro, with archers paradox the fletch never even makes contact with the shelf or riser. If your fletch has any sharp points it should be fixed so it don't. Leather works well but I really like something soft with some loft! Been thinking about trying the old style feather rest with a velcro side plate!
Calf hair but I'm gonna try the velcro!
Jason
I like Velcro for a number of reasons and haven't found a need to use anything else. Here are the reasons why:
1)It works.
2)It is easy to find locally.
3)It is easy to remove and replace!
4)It's cheap!
My bows have any combination of the following:
Shelf - Velcro or sealskin
Side plate - Leather or Beavertail
I have been using calf hair, but I want to try the Felt found under furniture legs. Do any of you guys glue a piece of toothpick or something to elevate the arrow slightly for less contact point?

Beat me to it! :bigsmyl:
industrial velcro, works wonders!
Industrial Velcro,Another really good shelf and sideplate is New Zealand shearling. you have to trim but it makes a great shelf rest and great sideplate. You do have to use Barges on it though.
I generally use velcro because it is a really good rest and is easy to apply and it sticks great.
Never had a fletch get caught in it with many thousands of shots. I do glue or have my fletch all end glued though.
God bless you all, Steve
