I have always used ferr-l-tite for my points with no problems. The last dozen arrows that I put together have lost about half of the points while at 3-D shoots the last couple of weeks. For years I have melted sticks of it in a little cast iron pan and heated it up whenever I am building arrows, so it gets heated up/cooled down several times. Can ferr-l-tite become less effective as it is repeatedly heated? Only lost one or two points for years and now lose 6 in two weeks. Just wondering if it is time to start with some fresh product?
I would think that anything reheated multiple time would begin to break down.
I find Fer-l-tite is too brittle and seems to loose strength over time.I prefer a white colored hot melt, stronger and not brittle.I also put some teeth in my points,I'll take a NPT 1/16-27 pipe tap and tap some threads in the point.I used to loose some points with ferr-l-tite before.Since I started tapping some threads in and using the other white colored hot melt I haven't lost anymore points.I don't use ferr-l-tite anymore, just too brittle.
did you clean the points on the last dozen you made?
Ditto on cleaning the inside of the point ferrules & roughen up the inside of the ferrule as well.
Shoot straight, Shinken

I've never had any problems with using Ferr-l-Tite. Then again, I'm using aluminum arrows.

Yep, always clean the insides of the points.
Thanks for the comments so far.
There was a time when I had some trouble with ferr-l-tite.
Since then I stick the hot point in water to quench it haven't had any trouble since.
I have had trouble with some of the other glue sticks.
When a arrow inters a target I think there is a lot of friction thus heat build up.

I've used ferr-l-tite for many years with no problems. Here lately I don't own a target that does not have a point or two in them, EVEN A BAG TARGET!!! Something is up???
I tried Big Jim's glue stick that he recommends. He has a video how good it works.
I have done a few and so far so good.
