I have been lurking for a while, absorbing information like a sponge. It's been years since I had any interest in archery, but I recently won a long bow and decided to give it a go. Fortunately, I found this site and the answers to all the questions that were burning in my head.
Here is my tackle:
The bow is osage orange /bamboo backed with antelope bone tips. It draws 60# at 30 inches. I have a Flemish twist string with a tied on nocking point.

I started with the test arrows from 3-Rivers and decided the 55#-60# spine shot best. So I ordered a dozen Port Oxford Cedar shafts and all the extra stuff necessary to make up some wood arrows.
I cut the nocks with a round file, then wrapped them with sinew and glue. Three coats of Min-Wax wipe on poly, sharpie cresting, and fletching tape finished them out.

I've only been practicing with my tackle for two weeks but Saturday I placed fourth in my first primitive archery tournament.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the great information you guys have so willingly shared. It was instrumental in getting my tackle tuned and performing well.
WOW, good for you. You jumped in with both after studying, that would make you smarter than me, LOL.
