Title: 225 gr. Tuff Heads and 5-1/2" Feathers?
Post by: Wyostikbo on June 03, 2012, 10:35:00 PM
I am going to try some Tuff Heads and I usually fletch my arrows with 5-1/2" shield cut feathers. Will the bigger feathers help or hurt with the bigger heads? Any advice on spine up or down with the Tuff Heads? Any help would be appreciated .
Thanks,
Brent

little snake river??? love that country.

get your arrows so that they will fly well without feathers, my advice.

However, they will slow the arrow down, only slightly.  They big feathers do nothing but stabilize the arrow, can only help, if you don't mind losing a couple feet per second.

The Tuffheads (GREAT heads BTW) are either 225 or 300 gr.  The heavy head will move your balance point forward, which requires less fletch for the same steering effect.  With a well tuned arrow, you will do fine with 3x4" feathers or 4x3".  You will probably need to go up in spine.  If starting at 125 gr points, add about 10 lb for the 225's, a little more for the 300's.  I strongly recommend paper or bareshaft tuning with the heavier points to make sure you have the right spine.

Enjoy the heavy heads, I sure do.

perfect fly if you are well tuned .
