Anyone use these? I did with compound and am thinking of using this year with my Kodiak Hunter 47@30 with 2016.
Yes I have used them and they worked just fine, great flight and razor sharp right out of the package. I have taken several nice deer, caribou, and antelope using them and a few turkeys. I shot the 125's out of a 55# bow and 2018's.
I shot a 210 pound black bear with one out of my Appalation Savage River takedown about 15 years ago.. With a Gamegetter olive drab arrow.
I shot a javalina with one last year out of my 51# widow.
I used them the first year after switching to a tradional bow, killed a mountian goat, black bear, a couple of white tails, and a cow elk. Used a 58# recurve and the old skinny beaman carbons with overserts. The only pass-through was on the mountain goat........but then dead is dead; I don't think the critters cared much.
They work very well for deer sized critters as long as your bow set up is reasonably adequate. Very tough if properly assembled, they're usually one of the first heads I recommend to guys who absolutely can't sharpen.
I'll take a wicked sharp Thunderhead over a dull "cut on contact" head any day. Besides, Thunderheads turn 30 years old this year, that almost makes them "Traditional"! :D
I shot few critters with them and other replaceable blade heads with no issues. I prefer a more "traditional" style head for durability and "cool" factor, but the results after the string drops aren't much different.
Used Thunder Head 125 gr. with Easton aluminum 2216 for about 10 yrs when I shot recurves . Had many pass throughs on deer :archer2:
