I recently went down in poundage due to an elbow injury last September. My new hunting bow/arrow combo requires a 175 grain broadhead. I've been looking at the VPA 2 and 3 blade broadheads and want to know if they are ready to hunt sharp out of the package or require a final sharpening.
I just got some 200 grain VPA's and they are pretty sharp right out of the package, but I will still run over a diamond stone lightly and maybe some cardboard to finish.
They will be sharp out of the package, but you will want to touch them up and get a good razor edge on them before hunting with 'em. But don't be put off by that, because they are SUPER easy to sharpen. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me...

Yup, they dont need much.
Eric
None of the VPA heads need much work to get them shaving sharp. I run mine a few times on a 1200 grit diamond stone and then a leather strop and they are ready to go.
Killer (literally) broadheads!
The broadheads are great.
They are pretty sharp out of the package.
You could hunt with them..they come sharper than some of the replaceable blade screw in broadheads I used in my compound days.
Now I know what a SHARP broadhead is.
and these don't come SHARP.
I never sharpened a 3 blade in my life till I bought a pack of VPA's.
After I beat my head against the wall long enough trying to get them sharp I talked with Ron at KME ( great guy ) about which stones I should buy etc.
He ended up emailing me a copy of some instructions on how to sharpen a 3 blade.
After reading it , receiving some stones and a babbit file I had REALLY SHARP heads in about 7 min each...got it down to 5 mins by the 3rd one.
If you would like me to forward the instructions to you I'd be happy to.
They have insight into what you're trying to accomplish with each step and other tips on holding the head etc that made all the difference in the world for me.
Tradtusker i think it was just posted a video on sharpening them recently. Stupid simple and I'm sharpening challenged. VPAs look good, I'm going to run them this fall.
Zradix, mind sending those to me?

Zradix: me too please pvrana@jw.com
Love my 175s, with just a little touch up you can get them shaving. God bless.
My 200gr 2 Blade were real easy to sharpen up with a few stroke of my file. Out of the pack...I don't thinks so.
My 300gr 2 blades took quite awhile to get sharpened up with my file. But after I got them to be where I want them to be...scary!! Out of the pack...NO!
Zradix, can you send me those instructions please.
