I'm heading to BQ 6, & I'm trying to decide if I should take a spare bow with me, or if i'd be a waste of space. what do you do?
On the trip? Yes
In the woods? No. Leave the spare in the truck.
yep same as Bud B
whoops...yup, on a trip. thnx Bud B
I brought a takedown with extra limbs on my B.Q. trips all 3 of them and never needed.A few will have early kills so could probably borrow another bow if something happened to yours and Tom sometimes has one of the Hope and Faith or other bows there.Your call but probably not needed.Better to take a spare Thermocell.Have fun I know you will enjoy it.Kip
I bought an extra bow for my Colorado trip. Ended up taking extra limbs just like Kip. Didn't use them, but i wasn't going on hunt 24 hours away with just one bow.
On a trip....YUP! At least an extra set of limbs
Breeze
I also do on a trip. I've not needed my back up yet but it just makes me feel better to have it and not need it than to need one and not have it.
Yes, I do, a 3 piece T/D.
I always carry a back up bow that stays in the vehicle but remember to allow for air circulation or the bow or limbs may delaminate from the heat.
Yes,plus a tackle box full of things to fix, sharpen and replace anything that might come up.

ALWAYS! My buddy had his bow delaminate at full draw last year on an antelope hunt in Wyoming. His back up was "back up" at the motel in town 30 miles away--mine was in the back of the truck, and since we both are lefties he could use it. The time I don't take a back up is going to be the time I need one! There were three of us and, yes, we all tagged out including Chief Broken Bow.
Both are take downs, but i only have 1 set of limbs for each, I'll bring both bows. rather be safe than sorry.
I had a bow come unglued on a hunting trip one time where I was about six hours from home. I finished the trip hunting with a borrowed bow. I have always taken a back up on any multiday trip since. That is one of the many reasons why I am a fan of three piece take-downs.
I always carry a backup bow(T/D Recurves)or an extra set of limbs for the bow. Never leave home without a backup bow or extra set of limbs.
If over 50 miles from my cabin I always have 1
What Joe said x2 ( and spare strings for all!) Good luck and take lots of pictures!
Not me. 2 weeks in Australia with 1 bow. I did take an extra string tho.
Absolutely take an extra. I'd always like to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
I always take 2 on trips and carry a spare string for each in my pack.
Planning for the unexpected in dealing with a primary component, especially in this case, may prove to be a most prudent decision.
Went on an elk hunt once. Took 2 sets of limbs. Guess what, the handle broke!

What Joe said..........never needed it yet but you never know!
You all have just about given me enough of an excuse to buy another set of limbs...lol.
I follow the ol' American Express moto: "Don't leave home without it."
Always an extra bow with limbs and an extra string (already shot in) along with "extra" arrows JIC.....
Always...you never know.
i would!!! never know whats going to happen
I have 2 identical ACS CX takedowns and extra strings always along.
Don't want to go as bowhunter and become a camper!
always if i am going very far from home. have never needed one but you never know. its 6 1/2 hours to my furtherest lease and there is nothing around there to do with archery for 100 miles!!
My pignut hickory self bow. Left and right handed so it works no matter which bow I have as my primary.
Always, with a couple 2 or 3 strings.. You never know what's going to happen.

Same here.

ALWAYS!!!!
Absolutely
I always carry a backup bow on package hunts and/or on hunts on private land which I've been invited to and which is far from my home.
Once my hunting partner backed his truck up over his bow while we were hunting elk. So since then I've always had a back up case of" backups" or whatever. Also an extra stretched string.
Hope you guys who only take one bow don't have happen what happened to my buddy as mentioned above--your Australian hunt might be over. Of course you righties always have options not available to guys who shoot lefty. :(
always have a backup on a trip. i have 2 identicle of my go to bow(s) (widow psax) just for this reason. a great trip can turn into a disaster quickly if only one bow was brought!
Extra limbs and 2 extra shot-in strings
I have done both, depends on the remoteness of the trip. I did have some limb bolts strip on me on a back country elk hunt once and I had a spare bow with me thankfully. And I always have extra strings in my pack that are ready to go with nock point and silencers.
Always carry an extra string and if I am not hunting near home an extra bow
Always at least 1 backup. And always a string in my pack.
To date I've only taken a back-up one time. However, I'll be taking a back-up curve with me in early August.
(And 23 back-up arrows!)
If I am scheduled to be gone more than one day, then yes. Messing up one of my bows would break my heart, but why have a broken bow AND a ruined trip?
:nono: :nono: :nono:
YES!!!
I was in the only elk camp I've ever been in and had a bow delaminate while leaning against a tent. I had a spare and always take a spare.
I wouldn't go on a hunt without a spare just like I wouldn't drive a car without a spare.
Absolutly, I just got back from Africa and almost needed it !!!
Theyre both takes downs , so they shouldnt take up too much space.
what other excuse do I have to own more than one bow?
Sean, Take the Wing! the bear wouldn't know what hit it.
Darn Charlie, I still have to pick it up from your friend!!!
I know Sean, Its not going anywhere.
When I am hunting on my own place (10 minute drive from home) I don't take one. But when I go "off" to shoot I always do. I have 2 HH Wesley Specials with the same specs, and these are my go to hunting bows as well as my most commonly used bows for 3D shoots. Fortunately, I have never had a bow break down but certainly don't want to take a chance.
Heck, with my luck I take a back up bow out to the backyard when I practice!!! Heh!
I always carry an extra bow on a bowhunting trip. Have never needed it but refuse to be caught without. That why I'm partial to TD bows.
