Howdy all! New trad shooter here. I recently picked up a used Dennis Willover Longbow 64" RH 50# "lucky Stick" at the Baltimore event. I love the bow and would like to find out more info about it. From my initial investigation it appears to have been made by a Michigan Bowyer in 1994. Any info on Willover bows would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, any reccomendations on brace height? I have it at 7.5" right now.
Thanks!
Dennis made really nice bows. Met him at several shoots. Haven't seen or heard of him for a few years. Seems like some MLA members might have some info for you.
Dennis made a lot of bows for the Michigan Bow Hunters Association and the Michigan Longbow Association as donations for their fundraisers. I think he also made bows for his friends as well. He was a staunch supporter of the state organizations and also the fight against inclusion of crossbows in archery hunting seasons. I believe Dennis had some health problems that kept him from continuing to make bows, but his efforts remain appreciated by MI archery hunters.
I picked up a used 66" Willover at Kalamazoo 2011. It was real quiet and fast, but didn't fit me well, and a hair too heavy for me, so I sold it recently. A nice-looking bow, and all I ever found out about Dennis Willover was good. I sold the bow on the big auction site, and ended up e-mailing a bidder back-and-forth, who said he lived on the same street as Dennis, and wanted to get ahold of one of his bows. He said he was a ***********er, and I have his e-mail, I think. PM me for more info.
Thanks for the info guys! This is my first longbow so I have nothing to compare it to but it just spoke to me when I was handeling all the used longbows at the Baltimore event. It fits my hand like a glove and looks great too. I can't wait for the next 3D shoot!
