I heard today from a pretty good source, mineral ,salt and any goodies that will concentrate deer in one spot will be illegal as of July when the regs come out. At least in part of Northern MO.
Trying to keep deer from gathering in one place due to CWD found in Macon County last fall.
So, if you buy some ahead , might want to wait til July and see what the regs actually say when they get here.
Oh yeah, the 4 point rule here in a few counties around the CWD area will be dropped, so the small bucks can be taken out. Seems they cover a lot of ground....
My thought would be more like getting rid of deer farms or a double fence several yards apart. :saywhat:
They did that here in Michigan it lasted two years now we can have mineral licks again. Hope it goes that way for you deer normally touch eachother in the wild they are social animals
The Missouri Conservation Commision is one of the best in the states, I have full confidence in them. Just take a look at the evidence!
I live in NC, so i have no dog in this fight, but i must say as a apiring Wildlife Biologist, there is simply no evidence showing a link to a food source and spread of this disease. Not sure the bans on baiting have anything to with this disease...even though it is the reason given, time after time. I think these measures are insane, but hey i live in NC. Good luck to you guys!
Yep, MDC does quite well.
I was just posting to save someone possibly getting a ticket for having an old mineral block laying out.
No fight here, I want to see CWD eradicated also.
I'm a retired wildlife biologist and I know MDC has a bunch of really good ones. MDC is supported by hundreds of thousands of sportsmen and women. It is one of the very rare state wildlife agencies that also receives support from non-hunter and angler sales tax payers.
When (if) CWD shows up the agency can't ignore it otherwise, at the very least folks that don't give a hoot about wildlife and some who hate wildlife, will demand others to take harsh action.

I understood that the major vector of the spread of CWD was the transfer of bodily fluids. That would make bait piles and licks a huge contributor, wouldn't it?
Jeff, Deer are VERY expressionable animals, they lick, smell, touch each other everyday. Outlawing baiting isnt going to help anything, it will spread anyway. But like i stated i have no dog in this fight, but i would like to see them try to do this in NC, it would be a fight.
How would this not help anything? Isn't placing mineral and/or salt licks an attempt to congregate deer to a specific location? Sort of the same reason game farms are blamed for the spread of CWD? I agree this will not stop the spread of CWD in itself but why would we as hunters want to aid in the spread? I have no dog in this fight either, just curious I suppose. Although we are seeing more and more zones here in Alberta doing mandatory testing for CWD.
When you hear some of the information about how fast there has been a reduction in deer and elk herds in other states it is pretty scary!!
Deer hunting in Missouri may be changing quickly from or generous archery seasons we have known?
I do know they have done some extensive sampling around the reported cases and have found it in the area so they expanded the sampling area.
MDC does not regulate the captive herds as it is under Agriculture department?? And they were worried about the re-introduction of Elk and the introduction of some disease when they need to be worried about captive deer and the spread of disease to the native deer herd.

I think MDC is on top of it as much as they can be. They have had voluntary check points since several years back, and they are monitoring the area where it is located.
No silver bullet for it, but they are working on it.
If they say no mineral or attractants, you can bet it won't bother me at all. I hunted deer when you couldn't use mineral and will still.
Never hunt over it,I only use it for my trail cam habit! :D
You may have to change up a little if you hunt over mineral now, but you can take a deer without any!
3.5 months, lets go!!
