Title: Bob lee shooters who shoot wood arrows
Post by: babs on May 24, 2012, 01:23:00 PM
I was just wondering what spine shafts you guys shoot with your bob lee bows. I ordered a dozen from snag but I have a couple weeks until there done and I didnt want to order the wrong spine. My bows are 50lbs at my 29" draw. My longbow likes a weaker spine I shoot 30" 35/55 with 125 gr tip but my recurve likes a stiffer spine. 400 spine MFX with 75 grain brass insert and 145 grain tip. I also use the bear weather rest. Snag thought 70/75 or 75/80. If I have to I will order two sets of shafts, just never shot wood before so I need help

(((((sorry, I misread the subject line...)))))

We're almost at the same spot.

My longbow likes lighter shafts too. My recurve likes 31" 5575s with 175 gr points. But those were causing wear on my longbow strike plate. I tried 3555s bare and nibbled them down to 29-1/2 which is almost right on my knuckle, they fly great. But I need a bit more room out front I think. With 145 grains I got good bare shafts at 30-1/4.

This morning I was shooting a 30" 5575 with a 250 gr. point in my stick and it was sweet. Quiet and steady, but lots of loop at 40 yards. It had feathers though. I'll bare shaft that this weekend. The advantage with the heavier head is all the combinations of glue-ons and adapters you have to play with. My neighbor has a chrony so I will check that out as well.

(((Holy Smokes I misread the subject line too   :readit:  )))

Arrow Dynamics Trad Lites cut at 30" for #55 and under with 125gr up front.

Arrow Dynamics Trads cut at 30" for #55 and up with 150gr up front.

That's what I use and they fly really really good - my draw length is the same as yours at 29". I have a 62" longbow and a 60" recurve both rated #53@28 and get the same results as you, the longbow likes the Trad Lites and the recurve likes the heavier Trads.

Gotta say I love those arrows, IMHO the best I've ever shot

Gentlemen,

The man asked about wood arrows from a Bob Lee.

My set up: Bob Lee Classic  62"  43 @ 29

I sand everything to 60# spine 30 inches long 125 gr. head
However, my Bob Lee recurve shoots a wide range of spines.

I have a Bob Lee Hunter 50 @ 28. I shoot 2016's now. When I shoot cedar shafts I think they are 55-60 spine. I refered to the chart in the Traditonal Bowhunters handbook by TJ Conrads. Its the Bible for bows as far as Im concerned.

I shoot a Bob Lee Hunter 55# @ 28 but I only pull 27" (approx 52#). I can shoot 50-55lb arrows good because of the short draw length (28 1/2" arrow length) but also shoot 55-60lb arrows good to. You will probably do better with the heavier shafts at your draw length and longer shaft. I shoot 143gr broadheads. Heavier heads may call for a stiffer shaft.

The Bob Lee bows require a very high dynamic spine due to there high performance design. If you want to shoot 30" arrows you will need around 70# spine and this is all determined by what size points that you use. As mentioned above get familiar with Stu's Calculator, it is almost addicting once you start studying arrows, LOL. Good Luck!!!!
