I own an OMP Ozark Hunter, 68" long 50@28. Due to several factors I realize I need to lower bow weight. The limbs are glass backed and due to how much I enjoy this bow and really don't want to invest in another bow, can the weight be reduced in the limbs of this bow? Maybe to 45# or possibly lower so I can keep shooting? Also any idea how expensive this would be. Just wondering. My wife keeps looking over my shoulder to make sure I am not ordering another bow! :dunno:

I know it can be done but my understanding is that it's usually just a few pounds.
I'm sure someone with more info will chime in shortly.
Another option is to trade with somebody in the Classifieds section. You wouldn't be out any money and could try a different (or same) bow

If it has not been reduced before 50 reduced to 45 should be doable. The guy that built the bow would be best and The Bow Hospital is a sponsor here and will do that too.

I have had good luck reducing longbow weight by narrowing the limbs rather than touching the thickness of the glass. I would think that 5# should not be a problem. Be sure to check your tiller before beginning and then maintain that tiller on your bow once you have reached your desired weight.

Have it done by someone who knows what they are doing. Also specify for split or three under. Yes, It's easy to do but if your not sure it's easy to throw the tiller off or get carried away and ruin the bow. In the past I have had several done with the refinish for around a hundred bucks.

JMHO, Suggest another lesser weight bow. Not that expensive & will retain resale of yours. Folks are real slow to buy bows that have been taken down.

I had a pair of Bob Lee limbs reduced by 7 pounds by Rob. It cost $100 and worked great.

I have an old Sentman that I reduced weight on. I took caliper measurements at specific places along the limbs and then figured a proportionate amount to reduce at each spot and then just started sanding - but only on the sides, not the belly or back. It takes alot of sanding to drop 5 lbs. I took off about 3-4 lbs and it made the bow quite a bit more pleasant to shoot, so I was glad I tried it. After re-finishing it shoots as good or better than it did before.
