Is there anyway to get a one piece forward handled longbow, griffin, retrofitted into a 2 piece? Any reputable shop recomendations? Price estimates?
Any one? Am I just playing with fire on this one?
You may want to talk with Craig Warren (Warren Archery 207-712-7143)about doing a bow bolt. Not sure if he does it or not or if your bow would be compatable or if the woods in your bow would support it. I bet it will be costly maybe better just to have a bow built as a two piece from your favorite bowyer
This has come up before-you might try a search. Griffin is a great bow-don't chance it. Like David says it would be expensive and your riser probably would need to have been reinforced from the beginning. Buy a 2 or 3 piece bow and sell or keep the griffin.
While I know it has and can be done, I wouldn't recommend it. In ly opinion, the bow should be designed for it both in the materials used and installation of the bolt or whatever system you are considering. If you really want to pursue it talk to John McCullough who built the bow. If anyone could give you the best advice it would be him. But I still think you'd be better to just order what you really want and have him build it from the ground up.
That is what I figured. I have been on the list for a couple years now. Guess I will keep waiting and pray he doesn't stop making bows.
Have you thought about ordering a Shrew. John used to be the bowyer who built them, and Gregg Coffey has continued the tradition after taking over from John. You will find many similarities between the two makes of bows. A Shrew will require a shorter wait than a Griffin, and Gregg does a great job of installing the BowBolt.

I agree with Big Jim, and the Bow Bolt was my little invention.
John makes one of the best bows out there and he will and does use the bow bolt but he won't retrofit one. As Big Jim mentioned, 45# is the limit without having had the bow made to accept the Bow Bolt in the first place and I agree. If the bow is being made with the bow bolt in mind, then the sky is the limit if it is reenforced properly. I know Gregg Coffee is making some "dangerous game" bows in the 80# + range with the Bow Bolt without issue and I belive Alan can attest to this.
Keep the Griffin as it is and if you want a 2 piece, have it made during new construction.
