I've always liked the 50s slim-riser styled bows so post 'em up with specs if ya got 'em...
Thanks!
Be careful most pics may have them in the 50's style haircuts as well(sideburns, and pompador)

This is my effort to slightly modernize (a little more curving in contour) the design of the Red Wing Hunter bows built back in the day.

Oh this is a dangerous thread. I do not yet own one but have been tempted to go with a Kohanna Kurve, or a Mahaska, or if I can find one a Saxon. I might try to work out a deal somewhere.
Burnsie, I was eyeballing that bow for a while...
Brianlocal3, all nice bows, I've looked at them all pretty hard for a while now. Someday!
I have a Holm-Made River Runner just about like the one that's on the Classifieds right now. 60" 46# @ 29" and it's my go to bow for the last 3 years.Light in the hand ,great performance, and a great Bowyer to deal with......not a bad price even new!
Anyone have a Pronghorn 50's to show?
I want one really bad.
I've always liked the 50's style recurves, here's a couple that I've made.

Jay - this might be a perfect time to show that "new" Whiffin bow. By the way, you make a great looking and shooting "50's" style bow!

That's a pretty bow. If I ever decide to go with a recurve, it will be something like that.
I've always liked the look of these bows. I like all of them, but the one above is really nice.
elkbreath, nice form bro!
JJB, I looked at that bow a few times, awesome work by both of you guys!

I've got an old Staghorn bow that was made right here in WI. I'm not sure of how old it is but I would guess that it was made sometime in the 50's... Does anyone know for sure?
Here are the 2 Kota's I've owned...sold the Bacote/Birds-eye but still have the Cocobolo/Myrtle.
Wow have my kids grown!

that toelke is amazing! I haven't like most of the three piece toelke's, but that one piece curve really catches my eye!

Does Steve Turay still make that recurve??? It's beautiful
I always love looking at 50's recurves. That Northern Mist Ottawa is beutiful! And i always love looking at Super Ghosts. Ive had a couple of good ones. The Fox Breed was a sweet shooter and the Saxon was nice for the price i paid. Wish i would have kept the Breed.
Anybody else? Gotta be some more pics out there... :bigsmyl:
All I have are some of the originals like these 55 and 56 Kodiaks.
Jack, I was hoping you'd join in. You have an awesome collection!
I have to get one of those bad boys some day, maybe I'll get lucky at a yard sale back in MI this summer...
Damon,
The 55 and 56 Kodiaks seem fairly common so that isn't out of the question. I think the single shelf 57 and on are more desirable to most people.
Jack, so those 55 and 56 bows are dual shelves? If so, maybe I can get my brother back out in the woods with me when I find one, he's a south-paw...Then if he's not into it, I can still shoot it. :bigsmyl:
Damon, I like your thinking. Yes, the 54-56 Kodiaks were dual shelf. The 54 is often referred to as "Compass Bow" as it had a compass in the handle.
Thanks Damon, I just got the idea of a 50's style recurve outta my head...now you put it back!!!! :knothead: Needless to say, im looking!
:biglaugh: Gotta love it!
Jack, a compass in the handle would be cool...hmmm...
Some great pics of 50's style (and original 50's) recurves in this thread. I've got a Kohannah Kurve coming from tarponnut, should be here in a few days. Gotta talk to Steve Turay in Grayling this coming weekend about his Ottowa!
Here's a few 50's Curves

Trap
I wanna go play at Jack and TRAP's houses! Sweet bows!
I just purchased this from Tim Finley (Kota Bows) at a shoot yesterday. I went to get another Prairie Fire from him, I sold one a few years ago and missed it - shot this and had to have it. It is the most silent recurve I have ever shot and fast.

I made it there as early as possible and went to his booth first, shot everything I wanted on the table, took a five minute break and came back to grab. Great table of bows, as usual, could have walked away with a few but this one has me writing up another order. He has a new take down called the Voyager, super sweet!
South forty shoot in two weeks, I'll try to make the dry day if possible, catch you next time Gator.
Hey Trap, What is that bow fourth up from the bottom? My dad used to shoot one like that in the 60's. It got burned up in a fire.Gary
