Title: discovery of overbow
Post by: ericmerg on May 18, 2012, 01:49:00 AM
i've always wondered after a long time shooting a day if i was over bowed, now i can go out and shoot all day long with my 50lb bow and keep consistent sized groups but it feels heavy so i was wondering if i was over bowed but i would shoot 100 arrows and feel no wear at all so i chalked it up to nope not over bowed i picked up a 68#/27 a month or two ago just to have started shooting it tonight with some scrap 2117's i had got about 12 arrows in and suddenly hit a wall of ok cant do this well anymore my groups went from 3" to 6" then i just stopped hitting full draw so now looking back at my 50# i discovered im most certain im not overbowed with that bow

50# to 68# is a big leap.  Most folks jump up 5# or 10# max on the way up.

I bet your 50# felt light after that. It is called neuro muscular overload.

keep shooting the 68# bow for 12 - 24 arrows. Rest between shots. In a couple of weeks, that 50# bow will be super light.

You will enjoy the 50# even more.

When I'm stepping up in weight, do what matt said.

I shoot one arrow at a time, then walk up and get it, and go back.  making sure to always get to full draw and settle into an aim before releasing.  when you're completely bushed just start shooting the light bow until your ready again, feeling good, to shoot the heavy one.  IT wont take long to work up.

Agree big w/Matt & Dan. It's heavy because you aren't used to the concept. It's a small hurdle you can overcome w/little effort. Do as these fellows told & you can enjoy both bows w/o much effort.

What Dan means is; shoot your heavyweight out till you can't shoot anymore (as in all in one session). Then put it aside for days maybe & just shoot the lighter one. When you;re "healed:, grab the heavyweight & do it again. You'll progress pdq! Look for Matt & Dan's vids.
