Which wood for kids arrows ? Sitka Spruce for weight or Douglas Fir for toughness?

I think the SS would be lighter than the DF. Hap

Spruce is probably better for the kids.  You could try bamboo garden stakes from the Home Despot or Blowe's.  You'll have to cull a lot to find the right spine, but they'll be plenty light and dirt cheap.

Sitka for its light weight.  I have some 5/16" in 20-25 spine.  I also have to Tonkin cane in 20-25 and 25-30 spine which are 27" long.  Cane is heavier.  Depends on bow weight and draw length.
