After a year and a half of shooting trad archery in my yard I finally got to spot and stalk a hog. I live in the Miami area so I really haven't done any type of hunting before i just spearfishing . I had gone on a couple of other hunts but they were unsuccessful.
A buddy of mine invited me to go hog hunting with him. He shoots a compound bow and had a guide service that we would use in the area of Naples Florida. upon getting to the guide I realize that the guide had very little experience with Trad shooters. The guide wanted me to shoot out of a very small blind. I knew that there was no way that I could shoot out of that small blind with a 64 inch longbow. I convinced the guide to take me on the spot in stock. I was really looking forward to it.
After about two hours of attempting to spot in stock we finally got close to a group of hogs. I could hear a few hogs to the right of me about 5 to 7 yards away. They were coming through some trees. A hog finally broke the trees and I could just see her head sticking out by one of the trees. I was waiting for her to continue to walk. She would've given me a perfect broadside shot at 7 yard. Instead she turned right towards me giving me a head on shot. The hog saw me, I saw her, she began to move to run. I let the arrow fly and.....gut shot! S!%t!!! She ran off . She was bleeding pretty good. So we looked and looked for the next couple of hours with no luck.
As it was dark and we were heading back to call it a night. My buddy saw the wounded hog limping through some trees into a clearing about fifty yards ahead. We ran up as fast as we can without spooking the hog. She began walking into deep grass I could just see her shoulders. She was walking toward a large forest type area and I knew we would loose her again. My buddy had his flashlight on the hog. I could only see the shoulder and guessed where the head was. I did not have time to get any closer. She was almost at the tree line. I gave it a Hail Mary shot from about 23 yards . I took a quick shot and sent 650 grains of love to the hog. I then could not see the hog anymore. I went to see what happened and to to right of where I shot 20 feet away was my hog. The Hail Mary shot was a double lung pass through shot. It proves it is better to be lucky then good!! It was a awesome experience, I will be doing that again soon.
After a closer look the gut shot exited the rear leg the aboyer single bevel did some great damage and slowed her down a bit for me.
I will post some pictures as soon as I can figure out how to do it on the site

What a story, what a hog!
Nice Hog!
Don't let Alfred fool you, he can really shoot! Twenty three yards is far from a "Hail Mary" for him, lol.
Congratulations, I know spot and stalk is the way you wanted to do it anyway.
It's good for the guide to be introduced to an actual/real bow, too.
