Who in the Trad community uses Thunderhead 125's with their recurve/longbows? I never hear anything mentioned about them, and there are plenty of 3 bladed heads out there i.e. Woodsmans. Is there a reason for this? I have about 24 TH left from the compound days and a couple G5 Montecs. I dont see why i couldnt use them.

i dont think there is any reason in the world why they wouldnt work, pretty simalar to a muzzy, but i prefer the two blade type cut on contact heads, im sure there have been some trad deer taken with those heads. givem a try :thumbsup:

I've killed several deer with the Thunderhead 125 during my compound days. The replacable blades on this head might not be considered traditional by most traditional archers, but I have little doubt that the 125 will work with traditional equipment.I prefer sharpening my own broadheads so I'll stick with my old Bear Razorheads or my Ace Standard heads for the time being but that is just my preference.If you've got the 125's and they fly straight, use them.
Thunderheads work great. The deer I shoot really don't mind which broadhead they get shot with. Here are a couple Thunderhead 125 victoms from this past season :archer:

I have shot several deer and 3 hogs with TH heads. Never had a failure or un recovered critter with them. With a heavy arrow out of my 58# Roy Hall they never had a chance. Traditional head or not the critters made great traditional dishes for my family.
Shoot what works and if what you have works why spend the cash for a head that may fit more traditional styling.

IMO....much better broad heads out there for stickbows for the same money...but I'm sure they work just fine as Allan success shows.
Jake, I agree that there are better heads out there for trad gear. As you can see, I was shooting a pretty high performance bow, and had complete confidence in it..as well as my ability to shoot it.
Both of those shots were complete pass throughs.
I have killed a bunch of critters over the years with Thunderheads...and I still like them.
They will work just fine....Mike Mitten once told me that he used them and had no issues with them. I feel that with lighter bows a 2 blade may be better but I would used a Thunderhead or a Muzzy in a heartbeat! Just ask A.S. his post shows the results!
Thank you all very much. I am shooting at 56# NM so I think i have the fire power. Since I have enought heads and blades to last a few years of hunting I think I will use them this year for sure. A.S. that is some great shooting!!
For me it was the way the blades were secured to the ferrel. Didn't care for the locking system...had the blades come out in a target once. This was back in my compound days.
They flew very well for me though and Allen is not the only one who proves they work...many an archer has killed many a critter with them.

I have killed a couple of deer with them and have had no problems. If you do your part, they will be fine. I now use cut on impact 3 blades because I can sharpen them every so often as needed. They dull even just being in a quiver so it is nice can to touch them up. But I would use a fresh Thunderhead without worry even if it is not quite the best choice for trad gear.
I used them 20 yrs ago when i first started shooting a recurve. that was also my BH of choice when I used to shoot compound. Ive killed a pile of deer with them, and even shot one into the side of a steel car port, and its was still sharp and spun true!
They work just fine. I have always been sharpening challenged. I shot Thunderhaed 125's off my sticks for years and took tons of critters. My thinking was that I would rather have a sharp chisel point Thunderhead than a not-so-sharp cut on contact 2 blade head. I have evolved since those days and have figured out how to sharpen my GK heads (with the help of my KME knife sharpener). I do think a razor sharp cut on cantact blade is better than any chisel point head, though.

My first trad kill was with a 125 Thunderhead. I've since switched to Bear greenies but my boy still hunts with the old Thunderheads that are laying around.
Noooo issues with thunderhead 125's. Still you them on occasion. They still'shoot to the spot as'my field point...make my life easier
Wonderful information, just what I was looking for.
And to the bear greenies, I wish I could find them reasonably prices.
