Title: Want to learn a little Turkish lingo
Post by: South MS Bowhunter on May 11, 2012, 04:34:00 PM
Guys I have a request for you Turkey hunters, I'm mainly a Deer hunter first and foremost but have been dabbling in Hogs lately (learning no success yet) and would like to add Turkeys to my resume.  Our turkey season closed on the 1st of May, so I have untill next year to pick up some gear and learn a little turkish french kiss   :saywhat:   With the excitement that turkeys seem to generate I thought it would be helpful to beginners if some of you who hunt turkeys and are sucessful year in and year out could open up your journal and school us   :campfire:

Also if someone could sorta list a beginners turkey hunting kit spelling out what one would be consider just the bare minimums necessary to put one in the winner circle if they do their part, thanks ahead of time!

A crow call is good really first thing in the morning for locating ,  I use a mouth call, cause I can do alot of calls on it without moving or using my hands,  takes a little while to learn, but you can cluck and purr and even gobble .  There are some pretty good videos on you tube too.

This is a good turkey language site:

Turkeys are lots of fun, but can be frustrating. This spring, I couldn't call up a bird for the life of me. Next year will hopefully be better.

I carry one inflatable decoy hen, 3-4 mouth calls, hoot tube, crow call and sometimes a single reed duck call(works better than a owl near the lake  :)  ). Everything else is my usual deer stuff like leafy suit, pruners, etc.

The turks have been tough on me this year though. Sometimes turkeys make deer look easy.
