Title: Zwickey Tonto Point?
Post by: The Hawk on May 09, 2012, 12:47:00 PM
I have been doing very unscientific broadhead testing and have concluded that I really like the sharpness, durability, and penetration of the Zwickey designs. Just wondering if any of you grind the tip down to a tonto tip and is this necessary for elk? Thanks

TANTO tip, like an armour piercing Japanese sword.

Hawk,
Been using Zwickey Eskimos for years and have used their No Mercy heads in recent seasons. Used to "chisel point" the Eskimos (al la the Bear Razorheads) and use on boar. Perfect performance. Have taken bull moose and black bears with the No Mercy with no modification, again perfect performance. I believe that with the triple thickness of the head design, modifying it is basically unnecessary. Hope this is helpful. Best regards, Todd

Thanks Todd. I have been shooting 'em through boards and cans and I am surprised at their toughness. How do you like their No Mercy compared to the Eskimo and do you think the single bevel increases penetration?

I like my points to actually BE pointy i.e, the Ke-mo sah-bee point    :D

I shoot my Zs like they are....well sharpened of course.

Hawk,
Not having done side-by-side comparisons on the 2, I am prefering the SB No Mercy. Had complete penetration on a 1200# bull moose out of a 54# LB @ 6 yds. On a medium bear, the No Mercy shattered the  off side leg bone - again complete penetration.
Did some earlier tests on a green bear scapula and the SB blew through several times with the scapula split from top to bottom. I'll take any advantage I can get in the field. Best regards Todd

Oh...sorry...didn't see the rest of the question....

I really like the No Mercy for hogs....better angle of attack than the eskimo....however, I shoot the 4 blades.  To date I've shot through all 4 hogs I've taken a shot at with the No Mercy 4 blades....including these two...

How far did thoes hogs run? Also how much did they weight? I am trying to judge weight of hogs. Were the No Mercy 4 blade double bevel? Thanks, Ken

One ran 25 yards,....the other about 45....double bevel....no scales....200 plus for sure.
