When the Michigan Longbow Association gets together, there is ALWAYS a great time had. I won't even get into the Chili Cookoff contest(That Steve O's son, Daniel, won for the 2nd year in a row with some awesome Michigan Black Bear chili), or the unlimited shooting courses (Rinehart 3D course, "Zombie" broadhead course and stump shooting course), the pot luck dinner to beat all others I have EVER attended, or even the door prize table with custom made arrows, Shrade knives, shirts, quivers, jewlery, golf balls, tons of archery related items ect..., nope, I'll jump right over all that FREE stuff we have from the members, for the members, and get right to the point.
When we get together, we ALWAYS have some fun shoots. Well, since it's the 5th of May, why not get a pinata, about 15 dozen flu flu's, then gather all the kids in attendance and add a Michigan Longbow Association twist to the adventure?
We do what we can to make sure the kids have a great time, for they are our future...

Mike, Looks like the kids had a great shoot. Great Pinata, pretty good shooting too. Way Cool.
Cool idea!
Laughing out loud at that one with all the arrows in it!
What a great time for the kids!
Whoops... Woke the husband. :scared:
Killdeer
Cool shoot!

Dan
On the other end of the field a bunch of us were 'trying' to shoot an American Round, but we couldn't help being distracted by watching the kids create their pin-cusion, followed by them running around gleefully with handfulls of candy from their kill. What a fun day!
How cool is this?....Way!!...I'm saying!!
If those pictures didn't bring a smile to your face, it's time for you to make an attitude adjustment for sure.
Thanks for sharing.
God bless,Mudd
That is such a cool photo! The kids having fun, and I know the adults were having a blast also. Mike, I think that picture right there says a lot about your organization and how to bring the kids into trad archery. Congratulations MLA!  :campfire:
I absolutly love that. You all are doing a wonderful thing for families and those children. If you don't mind I would like to save those piñata picks to show to out club.
What a great picture! LOL.
That is soooooo neat, couldn't help but smile. :archer:

Same here that is just a hilarious pic! Would have been even funnier to watch!
What a hoot!
dang i woulda like to have done that! looks like loads of fun ;)
I am heading over to Land-O-Lakes shortly to help take down the targets our good friends at the MLA were enjoying.
Here is a photo of the two time Chili Champion and his spoils.

Daniel has come a long way. We still love to make the chili as a father son thing, but it is completely opposite now of how we started. Now HE makes the chili and I stand by for moral support. All I can do now is supply the meat...he used some of my bear burger this year. Very, very soon, I will be even prouder (if that is possible) and his animals will be the centerpiece of his chili excellence
Here is a shot of Daniel getting ready to serve one of his friends at our first chili contest.

We only do them at the archery shoots we attend and it is a lot of fun to combine the things we love and do them together.
Just looking at that photo amazes me how much he has grown in size and stature in seven years (now 13 and pulled and held at anchor a 71# GN Super Ghost at our turkey hunting buddy's place yesterday morning  ). Winning is fun for him, but he has had his share of losses as well and it teaches good sportsmanship. Interacting with all the judges, other contestants, and the crowd is a very good opportunity to grow in character as well.
Thanks MLA and all the good people of traditional archery...it is so comforting knowing your kids are safe to be kids in any big shoot or expo we go to. You all have taught him a lot
I stand corrected...that picture was only the first PHOTO we have at an archery chili event. He informed me he started helping me a couple years earlier when he was four :biglaugh:
one word only : great time !
Looks like everyone was having fun. Those pictures are great.

Very cool, looks like it was a great time :clapper:
Good stuff!
:clapper: Looks like another great time at an MLA event
That was awesome! Those kids may have made as many shots as the grown ups over on the American Round!
Thanks for sharing Mike, and a big congrats to the purple apron champion Daniel O.!
Thom
That is really cool. looks like fun
Great job Daniel! You had my vote! ;)
That's great I love.

Please do. Alot of clubs would love to do this, they just need a visual as to what would get the kids involved. We aren't lacking in the creativity department in the MLA. We are blessed with some VERY creative minds.
Man, Don't those kids ever miss!

I'm going to ask our editor about that.
Very cool!
 Looks like a lot of fun!!
Good stuff. Mike let me know when that club has other open shoots.
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper: And chili to boot. Perfect.
Thats just darn right cool. Thanks for sharing and I think I will do the same for our club up here.
Are you making all those flu flu's Mike or do you have a good cheap source?

I don't think there is a "cheap" source for carbons. If anyone knows of one please let all of us know.
Our Senior Councilman donated his time to put all of these together for the Michigan Longbow Association.
All I can say is if you are going to do this shoot, be prepared to have a ton of smiling kids and also be prepared to check/repair every arrow. We ended up with almost 2 dozen broken shafts after this shoot, but the price is worth it to give them a memorable experience.
That looks like it was fun for all!!!
It was a great weekend full of many differant events for free. There was a great supper and raffle after wards. Did I mention for free. We had a couple of fire pits and some really nice camping spots. Did I forget to mention, FREE. This is what the MLA, which costs a whole $15.00 a year to belong to gives back to it's membership every spring. Kind of a , "hey wake up its time to shoot your bow again" shoot.
If you noticed in a couple of the photos there were parents and other adults mentoring the kids. This is what the MLA is all about. I won't bring up the fact that the weekend was free again!!!
Now thats the way to celebrate......
Mike,
I keep going back to the porcipine pinata picture and those are nice flu flu's! They are kind or parabolic style feathers and do some have that wind indicating fuzz aft? I'd love to see close up...
~CB
Easy to make, 3 fletch with 3 1/2" feathers and then wrap a single feather at the top between the nock and the 3 fletched feathers. You have to glue the tip of the wrapped feather to the shaft and clamp it until it dries and then run a bead of glue on the rest of the feather and wrap it around the shaft and then clamp that end.
Ahhh... I gotcha. Thanks Jon!
Yep, just that simple. Best part is that the 3 fletch is full height cut offs from full length feathers that were either chopped or cut to be burned. Very little waste this way.
The pinata picture could be a great tool to pull in young beginning archers. That would be a cool pic on a t-shirt :)
Way to cool!
Thanks for Making my day!
That's awesome ,,,
I was back at the club for joad today and the kids kept finding broken arrow pieces, in the final picture there about 200 arrows stuck in it. Most of the candy came through OK but there were a few candy bar kabobs.

I'm goin to have to ask Bernie to give me some hints on picture taking. My pictures have been compared to stick figure drawings.
I just never get tired of seeing that pin cushion, and more importantly I can't believe I have to wait another year to get some of Daniel O's chili.
that is pretty awesome!!! Great to see kids that have interest in shooting and outdoor sports
Daniel will have another batch of Double Black Chili for the Friday Night Chili Contest at Compton next month. He will be sporting his Purple Champion's apron and displaying his fine trophy as well to let the judges know what they are dealing with...
Some kinda fun last weekend eh?
What a time you all had.
I can hear all the kids haveing a screaming good time. Really cool. i never knew Bernie was such a picture taker Ken, That link is fantastic. Great guy as well.
I guess I just will have to try an weasle a bowl of "double black" chili from the young "O" at Comptons, and make a point to do this shoot next year.
I REALLY need to have some fun one of theses days.
Thanks for posting this Mike, Fun Stuff.

The hosting club, "Land O' Lakes", is my club. I am now back in my home state of Missouri, but am still a memeber of Land O' Lakes. I look at the photos and am reminded of how much I love that place. My church, friends, and the club, Michigan. Life goes on, we make choices, new friends, new church, but I miss that club. LF
Mike (Lefty Fred)--we have GOT to get a picture of Daniel and Kyle in the same pose this year at Compton! Man have they grown :scared:
Let the healing begin, we did break about 40 arrows, well on the way to replacing them.

Would you like a hand Ken? I'm available this week if you need me.
That's amazing! That may be worth the drive from TX to MI if y'all will let me shoot with the kids! That target looks like a porqupine (yes I don't know how to spell that word).
Pic heavy!!

Thanks for the pics Arwin. That sure is a beautiful course to walk and shoot, and the pics of the food line brought back some very good memories.
The course was so awesome, I love the shot scenarios. Jr loved the zombie course. His reasoning for shooting the woman in the forehead was because she already had been bitten, he did her a favor, LOL!
The food... OMG!!!! John and that leg of bambie was insanely delicious! My argument for shooting yearling doe was justified after he served that up.
The last pic is me being stupid and taking a huge bite from a "hot stick" I ignored the label and paid the price.
GLLI is next. Best part is I'm 5 minutes away from it, LOL! :bigsmyl:
