I had a magnificent take down bow built for me by Mr.Dale Dye many years ago.
Incredible Cocobolo with antler accents, 2 sets of limbs, knobs....ect. His bows are very high performing with amazing grip and shelf work and graceful still to shoot.
I traded a Winchester rifle with Dale for that bow. For the life of me I still don't know why I let the bow go! I sold it to steve berger back then. Brain fart I guess!!!!!
Recently, I picked up one of Dale's one piece recurves. This model is called "swift medicine". Built 1994.
I was tickled when I saw it and quickly reached out to the seller "thanks Rich" and made a purchase agreement.
We don't see many of Dale's bows in the classifieds.
His bows are simply amazing and the craftsmanship is top shelf in every way. This bow is approaching 20 years old!
I will post pics when I can get the camera from my daughter.
I wonder if there are any Dale Dye owners here who would post pics of their Dye bow?
Would be nice to see some of his amazing bows!
.......Philip
Ps: my old bow had my name on it and like most of Dale's bows had it named.
Mine was named "Ol'sure shot". 60". 55# and 60# limbs, antler tips.......I would love to find her!

They are works of art.
Thanks for the pics.......Philip

It's a beautiful bow in everyway.
The checkering in the grip is topnotch.
Dave, can you tell me what brace height seems to work best on your Dye bows? I have not had a chance to shoot this bow yet. I was thinking of getting an endless loop string made for it. Thanks in advance.
..........Philip
7 3/4-8 1/4 on mine. Some of the sweetest bows out there.
Dirtybird, I have one that looks like your top bow. It is 62in and am now making a riser to put those limbs on the make a 60 in. bow. Would like to find a 50# set of limbs to put on the new riser. Dyes are great. The 62in Dye is 53# and my 60in bow is 52#. The new riser will give about a 55# bow 60 in long. Roy
I have 2 risers and 3 sets of limbs 64#,60 and 58 all at 28. Love em'. All I have hunted with for the last 12 years
Dale is a nice man and one heck of a bow builder! Here's my wife's Medicine Point at full draw 29"

I have 2 Medice Points and 3 pair of limbs.
Great grip,accurate bows.I love them.
Does Dale have a website?
I looked and couldn't find one.
Beautiful bows!!
John
When I get done with my yard work, I'll post some more photos. For the interim, here's another of Dale's one piece wonders....another Swift Medicine....this one from 1986. I apologize upfront for the lousy photos.

All cocobolo......with chocolate colored glass. 57@28 60" with no checkering.
Philip - congrats on finding one of the older Dye bows. They rarely show up. Just remember.....there is a small stable of them right up the road from you. You are more than welcome to "borrow" any one of them any time you feel like it!
All of my Dyes seem to have their sweet spot around 8 1/16". Strange....but consistent. Dale always said to start at 8 and go from there.

Another "nugget" from Hamilton....a Trail's End made from an absolutely insane piece of Macassar Ebony.
Originally made for another NYC resident! After a long trip down the eastern seaboard, it ended up in the huge paws of Big Jim. He still smiles when I show him that bow!

A Medicine Point with two sets of limbs made for me. Curly Claro Walnut.

Need more sweetness?
Dale says this is one of two "truly unique" bows that he has built over the years. One is from a wood he could not pronounce that his daughter brought back from South America. He built a bow out of it for himself.
This one was from a Hearts of Palm blank that he had for a long time. He finally convinced a client to allow him to build a Trail's End 3 piece out of it. Like one of my other DDs, this one made a crazy journey down, then back up the eastern seaboard before it ended up in my hands.
Dale's handwriting says it all for the world to see:

My shoulder aches after shooting it for any amount of time, but man does it love 65-70 spine cedars!

No he doesn't have a website. He's busy as can be with no advertising that I know of. Beautiful bows!
Like the one piece bows! Don't see them often.
I picked up this one in the classifieds a while back. Cocobolo riser with snakewood stripe and snakewood tips. Great shooting bow.

Man does he make art. Their all beautiful.
Thanks for posting pics guy's.
Felix and Tony...........Wow!!!!
Those are amazing examples of Mr.Dye's bows.
The wood is absolutely stunning and the 1 of 1 is well.......1 of 1. Very Nice! I see it was made for steve berger. That's who I sold mine to. I asked him several times if he remembers who he sold it to but no luck.
I still cant believe I sold my Dale Dye T/D.
...........Philip
Philip,save you some time,order one.
Your right Felix. I may just do that.
Your bows are so sweet! Thanks for posting pictures.
The previous owner was attacked by a brown bear while elk hunting and he had his Dale Dye T/D with him. He used it for defense. He's holding on to that bow due to the "teeth marks". This Dye was his one piece which he said he can no longer shoot for obvious reasons. Thanks Rich! She's in good hands.
Here's the
article.....

Philip - great Dye bow! Absolutely beautiful. I agree on the two woods used.
Dale's one piece bows are always nice. My first Dye bow was the one piece that I posted the photo of.
That curly claro walnut is a great looking bow. I love the chocolate brown look.
Hope to get another one before he retires from building bows.Timeless beauties IMO.
I am having a riser made now to marry up with a set of limbs I got back from the gent I sold my original Dye to a few years ago. It doesn't completely fix my poor decision, but at least I will have a Dye again.
D.P.
I have another due this month, can't wait.
They are great bows!!!
Dale gave me the SECOND bow he ever built many years ago. Considering it was only his second attempt at bow building, it was a piece of art. It was very hard for me to believe it was only the second bow the man built. Craftsmanship was SUPERB and it shot very well. Unfortunately, it came out at 78# @ 28". Too heavy for me. A sad story follows. I loaned it to a muscular neighbor guy who seemed to take an interest in bowhunting. He showed me he could handle the poundage. A year or so later I ran into the guy and asked how he liked it. He told me that he loaned it to someone else to try but couldn't remember who he loaned it to. He gave me two names. I contacted both guys. Neither knew what I was talking about. The original neighbor apologized but again told me he couldn't remember. The guy had a drinking problem back then. I assume he sold it for booze money or lost it in a bet. I haven't seen it since. Sad but true. I made it a point to tell Dale to keep his eye out for it so he wouldn't think I sold it but as far as I know, it hasn't been seen since :>(
That's a crazy story and a hard pill to swallow Gene!
I don't know how I would have handled that.
Dale is an amazing bowyer and such a nice man too.
I regret everyday letting my trails end t/d go.
......Philip
Dale might be on of the nicest bowyer, heck guys, I've talked to. I really love his bows. I need a better job!!!!
Wow!!! Those are some great looking bows!!!
Gene thats incredible ! Being in sales for 40 years you meet all kinds.
I learned years ago two things I never lend out my wife and my bows, not necessarily in that order!
Steve I hope she doesn't read this. LOL :deadhorse:

Hope you find your bow! I've been attracted more to the hybrids, as I shoot them better; however, Dale's grip cannot be beaten! I have two of his bows, and will not part with them.

Another one of Dale's masterpieces. He just completed this for me. It looks incredible in person. The photo does not do it justice. I think I'm gonna have a twin made as I will have a hard time bringing this to the woods without a backup bow.
That bow is stunning. WOW!!
Dale is an amazing bowyer!
He is an artist to say the least. I haven't even opened up the rest of the box to view the limbs..I'll get some additional pics up later tonight.
Looking forward to the pics. I think the only thing keeping me from owning a Dye is the long riser. I wish it was shorter than the 19" or whatever it is now.
A few years back a friend of mine who is a boiler maker and so was his older brother were always asking the fellas they work with if they had any old bows they wanted to sell that they would buy them...My friends brother said to me "Look at this bow I just got" and as I was looking at it He said I ain't never heard of Dale Dye have you? I said Yes I have and you have a bow that not many will sell..He said I only paid $65.00 for it cause the fella needed some money...I remember the name on that 1 piece bow was custom for a fella named "Tom Sawyer"...Any one know him? The bow was a 1 piece that I remember...Keefers<>< YEP $65.00 :readit:
$65 :scared: :scared: :smileystooges: , you have to be kidding me. Does he still have it? I'll buy it from him for $75. :goldtooth:

Here's a photo I shot a few months ago of Rob Tiberio's Dale Dye and some info he gave me about the it:
"I purchased the African Blackwood for the handle . . . same material that is used for clarinets. It has a Blood Wood Stripe . . . the glass is gray which I bought from Mike Fedora.
It is a 58" custom bow, 55# I added my wool quiver. Dale Built for me in 1999. The bow is named Raven after my black cat.
The wool jacket is called Pie Bald and will be available sometime down the road."

I almost had it as a trade about 8 years ago for my tree stand but he wised up and knew he had a great bow...I asked his brother a few months ago if he still had that bow and he said Yes! Thats the cheapest I ever seen one go for. :D
Gary....I like the color of that African Blackwood....I think a Bocote stripe in the middle with some red/yellow Medicince Points would do the trick...I like the shirt also :)
Is he still making bows? what is the contact info for him.
J
406.363.2983 found this number for him on the internet if it is still current?
