I'm planning on ordering a bama hunter 64" soon. My question is what weight? I currently shoot a 55# Montana lb., my draw is 26".I think I'm pulling about 49#.I have been shooting the Montana for about a year and a half, and I'm very comfortable with it. I want to get the Bama at around 55# @ 26". Do you guys think this will be too much?
Richie,
I'd stick with the same weight. Heck at 49lbs you can hunt most anything with it... Plus you should be able to shoot the same arrows out of each bow...
Just my two cents....
If you are comfortable with the 49#, perhaps you should only go up to 50 to 52#@26. That's plenty of bow for almost any game. I shoot more accurately with bows whose poundage I can handle without developing any anchor problems.
Perhaps you can shoot someone elses bow in that range and see how you like the extra poundage.
Have you shot a 55# bow at your draw yet, if not see if you can get close to your wishful weight at a trad shoot and see if you can hold/shoot accurately with it first. A jump in weight on a new bow can be nice and also a downfall if you cant handle it.
There is a world of difference between 49 and 55 . I recently just dropped down mere couple of pounds and it became quite a bit more comfortable.
Thanks for the info, staying at the same weight does make sense.

I agree, stick with the same basic weight, shoot the same arrows, etc. If it aint broke . . . . .
I recently went to a 56# bow after shooting 53#s. I definatly noticed 3#.Took a little while to get comfortable with it. Just had an excuse to shoot more.
