Title: The joys of shooting in our gentle breeze.....
Post by: Ric O'Shay on May 01, 2012, 02:28:00 PM
Don't know about everyone else, but it has been a real pleasure to shoot my longbow the couple last few weeks here in Texas. Our gentle breezes of 20, gusting to 30 mph, has brought a smile to my old weather beaten face. Smiles, in that watching a normal arrow flight of three fletchings pinwheeling around a white nock, sometimes gets sooo boring. Now they swap direction at least a half dozen times from the bow to the target. Additionally, I now get to see great a profile of the beautiful arrows Rob Green made for me.

I've noticed the same thing Ric...

Takes some of the joy away but I still get out and shoot some daily.. I try to shoot into the wind to minimize the bad arrow flight.

Good for the windmills !!!

With you there.......all the FOC in the world dont add up to nuts when the wind is blowing 30 miles per hour.........arrow flight is sideways!

It's a shame in this wind to think our nice wood arrows won't tune right isn't it Danny?  Of course we all realize that once the breeze stops....it's gonna get HOT!

We never have any wind in Wyoming.....driving home from Casper the other day the gentle breezes were caressing us at 40mph, gusts to 60.

We don't have any wind in eastern Washington either. Except on the occasional calm day, every body falls down.

Same here brother.  I thought I needed to do some serious tuning until I broke out the paper and shot bullet holes.  Backed the target up and the wind still has them all.over the place!  :)

Glad I checked in Dan. Beautiful bow & arrows to match! Great photo!

What wind? Shot one today turned completely around halfway to the target. Landed about a foot from mine! Must have pulled it!

I get the same thing out at Aurora Reservoir trying to tune broadheads.  It does get breezy here on the front range, with 60-90 mph Chinooks in the springtime!

I was out last Sunday and everyone was ecstatic to have a 10 mph day, with gusts to 12.  You get a lot of practice holding through the gusts.

When the frist settlers came through the Cedar area they made a camp here until the wind quit. Well the wind never quit and we now have a fine town now.   :bigsmyl:

Livivng here we get alot of wind and you will learn to shoot with wind. Every year we get gust above the 60 mph mark and 20 mph is a gentle breeze by most local standards. It sure can make for some fun shooting thou!

We have had that here in Oklahoma the last couple days,  nothing like watching an arrow sideways on its way to the target !
