Pics on page 2...I got my new bow today, 25th Anniversary gift from my Honey, man it shoots very sweet, got 48@28. I have been shooting a Griffin for over a yr now and love it, the 59er is so smooth in the hand. The grip on the 59er is very similar to the Griffin, very comfortable. I am curious as to the brace height that others shoot with this bow. I realize this is a personal preference to some extent but still curious.
I shoot mine at about 7 1/2 ". Congrats on a sweet bow!
Congrats, I have a Griffin coming in the mail to me this week, used, I would love one of these too, Is John still making bows? Is this one new ? I would love to have one made for ME
Yep, 7 1/2....7 5/8. Nice bows.
Do you have a photo of the bow strung?
John build's great bows. Do you have any pictures ??
Bill
Thanks for the replies. Yes it is new and John is still making bows, I was on a list long enough I forgot about being on a list LOL. I will try and post pics in the next day or so. Dave
How does the 59er shoot as compared to the regular Griffin? I think I've been on John's list for 2yrs now.....?
Hey David, If I had to sell one of the bows, I would probably sell the Griffin. I love my Griffin, the 59er is somewhat smoother and probably a tad faster the 59er is 48@28 and griffin is 46@28. I have always loved a recurve. My friend shot the 59er this morning, he too owns a Griffin and he commented that he may try and find a 59er and sell his Griffin. Obviously it is a personal preference I just love the smoothness of the 59er.
59er is on my list, along with a 1pc Silvertip LB.
Congrats on the new bow, how long have you been on Johns build list? I was three years the 28th of April. Fiftyniners are great bows, I've had five and still own two. All of the ones I've had shot the best between 7 1/2 and 7 3/4 inches.
On a list for 2-3 years......I don't know how you guys do it. I shot a Griffin recently....real nice bow ,but I would not wait that long to get one....I'd find one on the Classifieds. But that's me!!
I honestly forgot about being on the list and had bought a griffin here on Tradgang about 2 yrs ago. I had spoke with John about 3 years or so I really am not sure. I got a call from him and first told him I already had acquired a Griffin, but would he build me a 59er, so I went with it even though my wallet was not prepared, my wife suggested she would make it my 25th Anniversary gift. I knew I could get money back if I did not care for it. The 59ers do go pretty fast when they come up for sale. John told me he actually incorporates a little of the I believe he said a 64 Kodiak into his limb design. I have owned a lot of bows and Lord knows I have loved the majority of them, but I do think this is my favorite as to the way it shoots...Dave
John's list is 2+ years on a custom bow. If you give him a call he let you know "what's sitting around the shop".... It might be what your looking for. It was for me :goldtooth:
I got a 64" Griffen that should show up by the end of the week.
I just recieved a 59'r about a month ago, 4 plus years but what a nice bow. I have had a few Griffins and they are very nice just prefer the feel of the recurve when drawing.
I have found the 71/2-75/8 is about perfect for me on the brace height.
John did tell me right up front he likes building the Griffin over the 59r and didn't know when he would get around to it. He doesn't take any deposit so it's not like your out anything if you never receive it.
Pics of 59er, I had a rather simple combination done. Honduran rosewood riser, Purple heart I-beam and curly ash lams over the limbs. The finish is subdued, but it is there protecting it.

Gorgeous! I'll bet that's a nice, quiet shooter.
Dave
Those woods really compliment each other! Good choice.
Dan
Thanks guys, it truly is the quietest bow I recall shooting, I am so very pleased with this. And to think I almost passed on having a bow made. My wife actually made this a 25th anniversary gift, I am sure going to have to get something super nice for her by the end of May.
That is a dream bow! I dont know if i could handle the wait, but that bow is sweet... Enjoy.
Sharp looking bow !!!
Bill
59'ers have great lines and yours is a dandy! Great bows, destined to be a classic. I have one too and agree on the quiet part. The only recurve I've had that is as easy on the ears is my Blacktail.
