Well last week one of my Best friends was getting married in Bama land. Knowing there was no way I could get that close and not go spend a little time with Skyler and Don we started making plans. I did not mave much time and it was in the middle of the week but the Wilson family are amazing hosts and I had an amazing time with them.
When I got there Wednesday Morning Don was in the shop cleaning up a knife for a friend of his.
He and I spent the day seeing the site in Northern Alabama. It amazed me how much tornado damage is still visable in the area.
Don and Tammy with the help of Miss Chloe made the most awesome dinner before Skyler and Don gave me the bowfishing 101 tour.

Oooh, this is looking like it will be a good one!
Bisch
Time with the Wilson family is always some of the very best! They're more like family ,than friends.....
Looking forward to more buddy :campfire:
Waiting for the rest of the story.... :campfire:
This is looking good... :bigsmyl:
Well according to Don and sky the first night was pretty slow. The conditions were not ideal. Skyler schooled me on shooting fish from the boat under the lights. I got one carp though and Skyler arrowed two gar and a grass carp that got away.
I think Don has a pic or two of the first night.
That looked like a feast! I could almost smell it! :campfire:
:campfire:
Holy moly! That looks like a blast already! I need a napkin...
The Wilsons are indeed family. Whip & I along with Rob & Larry will be reuniting for a little bow fishing...kinda Bamma Twister dejavoo this coming weekend after the Tenn Classic...tippit
Great read... good lookin' food, and bowfishin'!!
Looking forward to the rest of the story.
Thanks!
Bacon wrapped Venison and bowfishing, Im jealous
about both!! Looks forward to the rest of the pics. :campfire:

That looks like tons of fun, I assume there was a nap time after all that good eaten before the bow fishing adventure.
I was a great time but way too short!
Skyler is uploading pics now and we will add this afternoon.
And I would like too add something that Tammy says all the time.....She tells people often about all the friends, from all parts of the US, that come to visit us and stay at our Home. She tells them that we met them on the Internet and they look at her funny. She then explains to them what TRADGANG is and that every single person that she has met or have stayed with us are the nicest people she has ever met in her life...without exception.
It is true and she says it better than I ever could.....
We have met many LIFELONG friends thru TRADGANG and Randy is one of them. From the first moment that Skyler and I met him in Texas several years ago until he left Alabama this weekend, Randy is the same kind person. Genuine is the word that comes to mind.....
  More please... ;)
:campfire:
:campfire:
Perfect timing on this thread for me - I'll be following in your footsteps on Sunday! You're not making the wait any easier...
Looking forward to more stories and pics!!
Hats off to the Wilson Family for being the grand hosts they are to many a TG brother. You guys set a fine standard in hospitality.
Randy...I envy you being able to nite bowfish with the masters...I am guessing Skyler could school me in all the archery arts!
Don I agree it was to short. I wish I was still there with you all now.
The first night we hit the river and right off the bat Sky was spoting fish and hitting them. He also hit a huug grass carp but it wiggled off the arrow. Skyler can shoot fish farther away than anyone I have ever seen. If he can see it in the lights its in serious trouble.
I had never shot carp from a boat or in the dark. I learned so much that night.
The next day I got to hang out with Don at the Store he manages. What a place and team he has there.
Skyler and I hung out that night while Don and Ms Tammy took Clhoe to the Circus. A few storms threatened the nights oppertunities but don insisted we give it try after they passed.
Skyler and I met them in town and we headed for the lake. We no sooner got the lights on and we were shooting fish. The first arrow for both skyler and I were hits on great fish and it just kept getting better. I finally got a gar fish too. Those little things are hard to hit. I even got one catfish.
I learned a lot of things that night. First was if Don says get ready there is gonna be one right here You best be ready. He knows his stuff. Second Skyler is twice as good the second night as the first. :bigsmyl: The Third thing is there was nothing they would not do to ensure we had a great trip. Even with getting up at 5 in the morning and Sky having to get up at 5 the next they still pushed hard and we loaded the cooler with fish.
I cannot express how thankful I am for there friendship. As said by others I consider them family.
We got a whole lot of fish that night. Here are a few pictures of the better ones. I know that Don took some more but they were having some issues uploading them.

I had never seen a gar in person before this trip so getting a couple of these was special.

in turkey we call this meal as lamb skewer. also made with chicken, turkey, lamb, cow, simply anything with meat :)
it is lovely taste.
in here i would like to give you my special recipe for sauce:
before sticking the meats to skewer:
in big bowl, grate some onions and garlic, put cumin, red pepper powder, salt, yogurt (yes right yogurt), little amount of olive oil, pepper paste (i mean this : (http://blogs.sfweekly.com/foodie/sera_hot_pepper_paste.jpg) ).
clap them nicely.
put the meats in and mix them firmly.
wait at least 1 hour before putting them on barbecue. (not necessary to wait but it is more flavoury)
btw: do you have turkish raki? it is perfect with it. :) (http://www.istanbultraveler.net/images/tanitim/yiyecekler/raki.jpg)
Good folks! Keep the picts coming.
here are a few more pics...we don't have as many pics as usual...we were shooting stuff :)

It's been a while, but after those pics I may have to get out on the water.
I keep looking at the pics wishing I was getting ready to head out there tonight. There is something about spending time with great people that makes you never want it to end.
That looks like soooo much fun. I think I am going to have to make up a reason to go east just to go bowfishing with Skyler and Don!
Hey Randy, if you think those gar are cool you aught to latch into a 100+ pound alligator gar. Man, that is a real hoot.
Congrats on a great time with some great folks!

Believe me Randy it takes a while for that feeling to wear off
:(
When we were down in March we all talked quite a bit about you Randy..... it was all good buddy!
I bet I tell myself 4000 times a year I wish I lived closer....they'd get sick of seeing me!
It's such a feeling of "withdrawl" coming home for me after spending time with Don and Sky...whether it be TX or AL.....time always goes so fast.....It's hard to get enough of it.
Of course that could be said of about a handful of real close buds I've made here on TG as well.
Thanks for sharing the story and pics..
  :campfire:

Talking about me huh Uh Oh :smileystooges:
They may get tired of me and I live 1300 miles away.
Looks like a great time! From what i know of you Randy, there's no bad that could be said, but then I don't know you too well :)
