Well I broke the bank and bought a couple of the new Avian turkey decoys. I got the Lookout hen and Semi Strut Jack. Thought I could also use the hen in the breeding position - just set lower also. I will give it a try. I have been using Buckwing decoys for about 10 years with success, but these Avian decoys sure look real.
I am headed out for a 4 day turkey hunt starting tomorrow and excited to try these.

Good luck, just don't dose off you might look out and shoot your decoy.
I have NEVER had birds act as crazy as they have with those Avain dekes. I did get a little startled dozing off in my blind and seeing the hen move with the wind. They are pricey and a bit heavy, but I will take it. The second bird I shot this year was off the back of the same jake you have :) Good luck on your hunt!

Yeah, I caught them on sale at Cabelas and bought two alert hens and one feeder. I've never had a big mature Tom strut into my decoys like I did with these. It was fantastic.

Ive used other dekes and what Ive seen in the last 3-4 hunts the Avian's are worth the money and trouble to haul around.

But a little too pricey for me.
A buddy of mine has the Dave Smiths, and I have the AvianXs, a feeder and a 1/4 strut jake. His are incredibly lifelike, but they don't fold up and are a lot more fragile. Even if money were no object, I'd get these AvianX dekes every time. I've had the same results as the guys above have. My jake has been pecked and spurred so many times, I'm worried he's going to up and run off one day.
I have a cheap hen from Dicks Sporting Goods. It doesn't look as good as that. Now I am questioning my decision...

Those look great. They give my Dave Smith a run for it's money.
I have one of BTD, avian x, and a David smith. They all have amazing detail. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. But I do like the softness of the avian x dekes. I've had a hawk on two occasions attack my feeder hen. I think if a hawk is tricked than that's a pretty good decoy. Just my 2 cents.
Well the Avian Decoys really work. If I can figure how to get the photos out of Photo Bucket and attached I will show you.
Until then - I called in a nice Tom and he was nose to nose with the semi strutt Jake. As he walked around the decoy and was about to jump on it, I put an arrow thru him. He turned and walked back toward me and dropped at 3 paces from me. Later, we walked back to the camper for lunch. A tom came into the decoys and we watched as it began beating up on my Jake. Truly, we watched this for 30 minutes. It was unblievable. The tom did not stop until it had knocked the Jake decoy from it's stand. I sure wish I would have been in the blind, as my video camera was in there. The Avian decoy really works. I also had a lookout hen, but then didn't bother with it.

Hope this one posts. The Avian decoy is expensive, but better than watching turkeys walk around your decoy. I used Buckwings for years, but they don't work nearly as well.
Yeah I like those decoys.
I used the Avian X decoys for the first time this weekend and had hens feeding in my decoys and a longbeard trying to breed my lookout hen. I have used alot of different decoys over the years but these have already been the best. My only concern is will they hold up for the long haul being filled with air.
