I just recently tried a 2117 in my quest to find the perfect arrow and so far so good. Is there anyone else with a long draw that are shooting aluminum ? They flight great for me so far. I am concerned about penetration weight but they do go where I am looking.
A 2117 isn't a light arrow, particularly in a long length. Penetration certainly will be excellent for any but the largest critters.
IMO the 2117 is a good thick walled durable arrow. I've used them in the past with a recurve bow I used to own. Penetration should not be a problem.
I know a guy who shoots a Hill with aluminum arrows, he has a draw of 30+" and has no problem with them. In fact he is one the best shots I know! The 2117 is a fine arrow that's been around for a long time......lots of folks shot them....many still do!! :thumbsup:
2117 are 12gpi thats 372g on a 31" shaft.... not a bad starting point.

I'm shooting aluminum at the present time. 2020 & 2018. A 31" 2020 with a 240g VPA 3 blade = 690g, flies beautifull.
Chain if you want some weight, a 2020 spines just a hair less than a 2117 but weighs a bit more.

Getting them to go where you are looking is the hard part! The only times I found problems with penetration was when:
- I botched the release
- My nock point was too low
- My fletching wasn't setup right and my arrow hadn't had a chance to recover before impact
Otherwise, 2117's have been working great for me for over a year. If I were to adjust any direction from here it would be like Eric said with a smaller diameter and a thicker wall, but I thought the 2020 was discontinued.

Im not overly long, 29" bop and I use the Legacy 2018 with 125 up front.
My HH bow is marked 49#....My arrows fly great.
I just got some legacy 2020 .. Full length with a 200gr ace and adapter with no feathers i weighed them in at 740 grains..i hadnt got a chance to shoot them yet but im looking forward to it.
Ah I see it now, thanks for the pointer! So the 2020 ships at 32", I think I'll cut one arrow down to 32" and put a broadhead on it and see if I have problems with it hitting my riser. If I have a little gap I'm going to order some of these! I love TG, learn stuff here all the time!
That xx78 2117 comes in at 33.25" full length, just in case someone finds this thread in the archives later.

I used 2117 and they are pretty good. Also like the 2020's
I am shooting 2117 Legacy out of my Jerry Hill LB.
Specs: Arrow weight 554grs. 31,5" BOP, 5" parabol helical fletch, 125grs point. Shoots great at my draw 58@30!!!

I have used 2117's with good success. Penetration has not been an issue. My first set was in Autumn Orange and were the most beautiful aluminums I ever had. I shoot mostly wood now but still have some aluminum on hand.
Are Wood Arrows a Problem at that length? Just wondering why the Need for Alum.
I have been told wood is an issue for me. With that being said I have been trying to adjust shooting style, drawlength etc.
Even though draw length was not stated (or #), I would say woodies for a 32" draw (so 33") are not a common occurrence (especially POC). The Easton Legacy 2020 full length shoots great out of my Wesley (67#@32"), but I still prefer shooting the woodies, I still have that are long enough out of her (Can only pull her back a limited number of times due to degenerating body).
Draw is 32" I need to try some woodies someday.
I Shoot a 68" Bill Stewart take down longbow 31" draw length, 59 lb draw wt. I shoot full length 32" 2219 Easton legacy arrows. Tipped with 160 gr. Woodsman Elite glue-on broadheads and 32 gr. threaded adapters. Almost 700 gr. total, arrows fly great. Pass thru on an elk at 25-30 yards last season.
