Title: A sharpening observation
Post by: Bullfrog on April 25, 2012, 10:36:00 AM
I know some guys are going to think this is overkill. But, I am a sharpening NUT. On sharpening 3 blade heads the heads seem to cut better in the direction of arrow travel when they are sharpened from back to front instead of front to back??

i think that because you are cutting metal forward and if you look at them under a microscope you will micro cutting edges facing forward no matter how sharp you make them there is a micro cutting edge on the blade thats what makes them cut, a good way to see it is to look at a flint knapped head. I have noticed that as well on 3 blade heads. It doesn't seem to do this on 2 blades though.

Learning and need a little clarification,

with the tip of the broadhead FACING AWAY from you and the file laying flat on a board, PULL the head towards you, or PUSH it away from you?

I seem to get a better edge if I PULL it towards me, but I have known to be totally opposite from all other NORMAL people   :biglaugh:

Move the sharpening media from the point to the back of the blade.

This is getting really, really picky.  I guarantee you there isn't a game animal ont eh planet that cares which direction you sharpen in.
