Title: wood arrow question
Post by: KOOK68 on April 24, 2012, 04:37:00 PM
Is there any way to remove glued on points? How about nocks? They shoot great, but a couple of the nocks fit loose. Maybe use hot water and squeeze for the nocks? Was wanting to swap a couple field tips for broadheads. Not sure what glue was used.

I would try some light heat, as most folks use Hot Melt for the Field Points.

As far as nocks, I use a side cutter and carefully cut the outside and remove them.

Hope this helps... Lots of experienced.

Thanks. I will try that. I believe they were built by 3Rivers.

Yup use the light heat for the field points. just point them away from you when heating, just in case they used epoxy(it will shoot of the shaft). And the side cutter is a great idea, just sand any rough spots under the nock.

Lightly heat the point only with a propane torch and pull off with pliers. Re-serving with thicker serving is the best fix for loose nock fit.

Good advice on the point removal. For the nocks I just lightly heat them with a Bic til they get a little soft, then twist off with pliers...if they don't come off easily, just heat some more.

And relinquish all hope of re-using nocks. They are cheap for a reason.

I use dental floss to thicken up the serving below the nock point.  Easy to add and easy to remove.
