I was shooting today and have always shot split finger. I decided to try three under and when I did the bow was a great deal louder and I also felt more vibration in my bow hand. Is this normal? I shoot a 58 inch recurve, i have a 28" draw length.
I have never tried shooting 3 under but I have heard it can make more noise than the standard split fingered draw.
If the bow is tillered for split, three under makes the bottom limb work to hard....an unballanced bow it way noisy.
Did you try raising your nocking point. Also try raising your brace height. Just need to experiment more. Good luck
One of my friends shoots 3 under and his bow is tillered for 3 under too.
His bow is louder upon arrow release than my bows, but I shoot split finger and my bows are tillered for split finger.
We both have yarn wool puffs as string silencers on our bows also.
Three under is oftentimes louder than split finger but you can tune the bow to make it quiet again. I have shot many many bows three under that were tillered for split and there is no discernible difference in noise compared to a bow that is tillered for three under. shoot what makes you the most accurate then tune the bow with string silencers, arrow weight and spine etc. to get rid of the excess noise. Good luck!
Raise your nock point, for me 1/8" worked well, and make sure you don't have too much of the weight on your ring finger when you draw.
thanks everyone for your responses, i will try what you guys suggested :)
Can you say "Bowhush".
If you shoot well split-finger than just shoot split-finger. If you have issues only than try to change to 3 under. I changed because I have accuracy issues with split-finger I found I shoot much better 3 under. So I dealt with the noise and knock issues and shot hundreds of arrows to retrain my brain to become accurate with 3 under. If I shot well split-finger I would have stayed with it. Don't cause your problems if you don't need to.
