Title: riser length
Post by: doulos on April 20, 2012, 02:29:00 AM
Trying to decide what riser length to order between a 17 and 21 inch.
Will a 21 inch be more forgiving for a newbie like me?

I shoot a short riser.  I get a longer working limb that way, for me it makes for a smoother draw.  I also have a really high anchor so I like a short sight window.

A shorter riser may be more forgiving for you, because you can get more limb.  You really need to try one for yourself.

What's your draw length? In most cases a longer riser makes for a more stable shooting platform.

i was in the same boat as you . i went with the 21 inch riser.i love it.Its paired with 64 inch limbs and my draw length is just under 28.Its heavier by far then anything i have shot, but smooth and stable during and after shot. i should mention its a metel riser.

The true is in the middle, lot of (old)bowers use 19" riser lenght in their production.

17" and 21" sound like Dalaa risers and both are great.  If you are going to just target shoot I'd suggest the 21" but if you are going to hunt, 3D and target, the 17" would be my choice.

I MAKE BOTH IN MY RECURVES,I AGREE WITH MIKE ALTHOUGH YOU MAY HAVE TO CONSIDER YOUR DRAW LENGTH .I HAVE A 31" DRAW,I LIKE THE 21" RISER BEST.

thanks guys
Its a choice between the 17 and 21 inch Daala.
the reason I have decided to go with that riser for this reason...  versatility plain and simple
I have never shot a traditional bow . I want to learn. I figured getting a daala with 30 lb limbs to start.
The Daala's ability to tweak many different adjustments and grip styles is what drew me to it.  I dont know what I like yet. But I thought this would be a good bow to help me figure it out.
I know if I really like this there is wooden takedown somewhere in the future though.
The Daalas ability to shoot quietly from what I hear is also a plus because I am mainly a hunter,
finding anyone my area that knows much about tradiional archery is getting very hard. So ive come here and other sites to pick your brains.

Im not sure of my draw length yet as I dont have a traditional bow to draw. With compounds ive shot any thing from 27.5 to 28.5 depending on manufacturer.  Im betting Id be 27 in with a corner to the mouth anchor.

Im deliberating between the 2 risers mainly from a learning standpoint point. Which will be easier to learn with.
thanks guys
