Title: Nock point Material
Post by: Scattergun2570 on April 18, 2012, 05:49:00 PM
I saw one of the videos on here where .030 Halo is used to tie a nocking point. Can I use different material, like B-50 Dacron? I am not that familiar with all the materials out there. Also,,does it have to be .030? Can it be thinner?

I've used B-50, .020, D10, dental floss and they've all worked just fine....

BCY makes "peep and nock point tying thread". It's all I use.

I found a big roll of mil surplus dental floss at a gun show and use that.
Tying on a nock point really isn't rocket science. Just use something that will make a lump on the string that you can see and feel.

I took one of my old D97 string apart, and now have enough to try on nock sets for the rest of my life lol.

I've used cheap 25 or 30 lb monofiliment fishing line for 20# years now...  tie it in an can twist it up and down if needed...

Now that would be something that I always have around.  Not quit sure how you tie it though?

Lots of string works. I use bow string material becauase it is sort of flat instead of round. This makes for a lower profile nock locator.

Blaine,
There is a HOW TO forum here on Tradgang that shows several different ways to tie on a adjustable tie on nock...One is by Mano productions and an excellent video clip...The other is done by Rob. D and a picture style layout...Once you learn how there's no going back and learn to do two if you are a split shooter..That bottom one will keep the arrow from slipping upon release and improve your arrow flight..
